In the docu-special, from Disney Branded Television, Academy Award®-winning filmmaker Morgan Neville captures Dave Letterman on his first visit to Dublin to hang out with Bono and The Edge in their hometown, experience Dublin, and join the two U2 musicians for a concert performance unlike any they've done before. From Brian Grazer and Ron Howard's Imagine Documentaries, Neville's Tremolo Productions, and Dave Letterman's Worldwide Pants, "Bono & The Edge: A Sort of Homecoming, with Dave Letterman" is part concert movie, part travel adventure plus a whole lot of Bono and The Edge, with Dave's humor throughout. As well as the concert performance itself, the docu-special will focus on the extraordinary relationship between Bono and The Edge and how it has developed across 45-plus years of close friendship to become one of the most remarkable songwriting partnerships in the history of rock 'n' roll, plus document Dublin through Dave's eyes as he experiences Bono and The Edge's home city for the first time.

I thoroughly enjoyed this short documentary. What I didn't expect was to see Glen Hansard play with them and talk about growing up when U2 was the opening band for The Police. It has an intimate feeling as they reflect on all that has made them WHO they are. For those of us who believe they take us to church, you will love the final song. Be in the room watching, don't multi-task, put down your phone, and let the cooking wait. You will want to sing along or let this song wash over you. Enjoy!

While I'm no die hard U2 fan I am Irish and as such I am required to know all their music. Part of the charm of this documentary is the natural warmth of the friendship between Bono and The Edge. There is an obvious gleefulness to David Letterman discovering Dublin for the first time. And Dublin has never looked better. The documentary is not just a look back and reimagining of a magnificent success story, it's a beautiful tribute to the city that made them. And my country.

By and large, this is a fairly vanilla documentary; Dave Letterman is a charming but not exactly incisive interviewer. Any sort of U2 fan will hear nothing here that they didn't already know from elsewhere. The musical performances are by and large good versions of some of the newly rerecorded 40 songs from Songs Of Surrender. I was especially taken by the new version of Invisible, a song which had previously left me cold. It's moving and inspiring here, almost touching on gospel. The sequence where Bono and The Edge play a song written especially for Dave Letterman is very sweet; the bond between them is clearly real. It's also the case that whenever Glen Hansard is on camera (singing or speaking), he's a fun and engaging presence. Fans will enjoy it for the music and the behind-the-scenes feel; U2 sceptics may find some of Bono's reflections interesting.
