The live theater capture of the hit musical Hadestown, which won eight Tony Awards in 2019 including Best Musical and the 2020 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album, featuring the five original principals of the Broadway company. The genre-defying new musical blends modern American folk music with New Orleans-inspired jazz to reimagine a sweeping ancient tale. Following two intertwining love stories -- that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of King Hades and his wife Persephone -- Hadestown invites audiences on a hell-raising journey to the underworld and back.

This production feels like a fleeting moment — a reunion of friends and collaborators retelling a myth that is recounted over and over again. Go to Full Review

The message is that telling these stories over and over constitutes a learning experience for the listener. I don’t know if that’s true, but I wanted to watch this movie again as soon as it ended. Go to Full Review

Art is a beautiful form of masterful trickery. Musical theatre is no exception. Hadestown: The Musical offers a sublime opportunity to cherish that reality. Go to Full Review

I would argue that it is a love story to musical theater. It shows you what theater can do, which is why I'm so glad that they chose to film the stage show instead of trying to adapt it, because I think you'd lose the magic. You'd lose the spark. Go to Full Review

If you love iconic performances, Greek mythology, or great storytelling, this is a musical you should pay the price to see. Just don't pay two coins because that's a dangerous path. Go to Full Review

Evan B 46m Loved it. I had just seen the national traveling stage performance and it was amazing this was just as good and I got to see things I didnt from the theater it was amazing See more SARINA 1h the ticket system, sound quality, temperature, staff and fellow people were awful. Why did our fandango tickets put us in a different theatre number. When we got to the correct theatre the room was a sauna and it was packed for Hadestown. Their were people in our assigned seating so I figured ok, its like the old way, we sit wherever. Then an usher came and asked to see proof of my ticket. I said check the entire row. We already had changed seats twice to avoid conflict with other people and because we were sent to the wrong theatre. So the usher checks my ticket and he finds out another girl is in our seat smelling like butt and her tickets were for a completely different day. how was she able to get into the theatre. The usher did not bother to check anyone else's receipts. felt completely targeted. After the show started, I noticed the room was still very warm and crowded and the sound on the previews were way louder than the movie itself. I went up to the box office and asked to turn up the air and volume. Nothing improved the entire movie. It really is a shame. So many dedicated Hadestown fans were in attendance and the audience was so quiet because we were trying with all our might to hear and stay cool. Afterwards I went back up to the box office and let them know they may need an AC guy to come. Then at the point it was finally communicated to me that an AC guy is scheduled to come on Thursday. So they knew and chose to pack the full theatre regardless, did not give us an option. Shame on you AMC village Crossing Skokie. Worst experience I've ever had there. See more Elsie M 2h Amazing performances. Shot and edited very well. I might see it again before it leaves the theater. See more Irene 11h MORE PROSHOTS. also Patrick Page in particular is great See more Ronald N 13h Don't let this one go. See more Hailey 14h Fantastic musical. Well-written. Masterfully performed by the leads. The only downside is the theater experience. People were adding commentary ranging from a whisper to yelling out at the screen. Unfortunate. It really detracted from the movie. See more Read all reviews
