See more Rare T 01/28/2025 It may seem unfair to High Society that it gets assessed based on the standards The Philadelphia Story had set before it, but that’s the path its makers chose, so it’s only expected. Yes, it can stand out on its own, especially with the cinematography, numbers, and performances, most notably from Grace Kelly in addition to the voices of Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra, and Bing Crosby. However, once one has seen Katharine Hepburn, Cary Grant, and James Stewart in those roles, no other rendition will be the same, especially with the lack of feeling and chemistry in this movie as opposed to the original which was satiated with them and thus more convincing. In all, it’s nice to see both movies, as this is not as bad as to be missed. See more Lisa B T 06/27/2024 This is a horrible remake of a wonderful movie called The Philadelphia Story with Cary Grant, Katherine Hepburn and James Stewart. I suppose High Society was made as a musical to try to set it apart. The acting in High Society is over the top, extremely awful, forced. Some of the same dialogue is part of High Society that was in the original movie but High Society tries dismally to change it slightly so that it comes off very awkward. It's only worth watching if you want to watch a bad movie. I highly recommend you stream The Philadelphia Story! Howard Hughes bought the rights of the movie for Katherine Hepburn. See more isla s 09/05/2022 This is definitely a swooner type musical, dating from the 1950s. It is perhaps a little slow plot pace wise but the characters are interesting enough and I certainly recognised a few of the songs. I thought this was a reasonably enjoyable musical. Some of the script is cringey but of course its a film of its time, so sexist comments etc. are to be expected. I wouldn't say this is a particularly standout type musical but its not bad either, hence my rating, so yes I'd recommend it but only to fans of musicals. See more Read all reviews
