Inés Gowland’s soft, painterly compositions, too, temper the film’s emotions... a handful of sightseeing scenes are captured from the playful perspective of an iPhone video, releasing some of the pressure of the film’s more somber visuals. Go to Full Review

The theme is how humans handle grief, taking a toll on mental health before the weight becomes lighter. The prickly mother and daughter interaction can be found within that weight, and the lifting of that veil that occurs in the paradise. Go to Full Review

Director Lilian T. Mehrel deserves credit for underplaying the film’s beauty while still doing a fine job of capturing the Azorean island. Go to Full Review

It’s a smart director who recognizes that in a movie about grief, it’s important to make your movie small enough that a lot of what matters is left out of frame. Go to Full Review

Annette A @aracha2026 5d This is a heartfelt film that tells of the experience of grief through a mom and a daughter. The book is set in the beautiful archipelago of the Azores, where Lela and her daughter, June, experience the loss of a loved one as they struggle with their own unique methods of grieving. The overall sentiment of Humor, sadness and self-discovery, all hallowed and deeply human is right on the money. What I loved the most about the film is that it stayed with me as a personal journey through grief. Healing is not a linear process and Lela's relationship with June is emblematic of the difficulties many families encounter when coping with loss. Their interactions are filled with warmth, tension, and ultimately understanding, making their emotional journey relatable and moving. See more Umutoni G @RT01569678 Jun 16 the story in the movie is a soft, emotional watch with a calm storytelling style. It focuses more on feelings and relationships than big drama, and that makes it feel very personal. Some moments are quiet but really hit in a subtle way. Overall, it’s the kind of film that lingers with you because of its emotion, not its intensity. See more Stephen C @bob25009 Jun 10 Funny in 1 1/3 hours. See more Read all reviews
