I can see this as a remake in the future, you can pick your dream cast to play these roles.
Simple but addictive crime thriller, cynical and with a notable ending.
Stumbled upon this movie on tivo earlier in the evening. A pretty decent movie with an important lesson - always do the right thing and the right thing is usually the hardest thing to do. Love watching my favourite HK actors Lau Ching Wan, Loois Koo and Daniel Wu.
If you've seen "Infernal Affairs" then this is of non-existent value. The scriptwriters try the same thing but in all honesty it almost worked but for the rushed ending or rather the "oh so predictable" finale just spoils it all. It explores human emotions more than twisty plots, that's what makes it bearable.
although being a crime thriller I found it much more of a drama and suspense. especially when the popcorn popping score by Chan Kwong Wing kicks in. it explores the dark side of surveillance with an appropriately dark enough atmosphere. but somehow, the very same film makers behind Infernal Affairs fails to make Overheard anywhere near as iconic
This is some new idea, it then developed into great suspends when they tried to cover their track.
Although the film tries to spread old value of greed, the suspend creates great entertainment for audience
Well, it was sad that things turned out to be like this at the end.
Great cast with a couple exceptions.
The movie was a pleasant surprise right up to the last 20 minutes, which destroyed a lot of the goodwill the movie has built up to that point. Scenes that required more screen time were rushed, where as 5 minutes were given to really dumbfounded speeches. Michael Wong, god bless him, was a major distraction with his non-acting.
Worth seeing. Good cast combined with a few twists but a bit of a let down towards the end. 3.5/5
This is a really great moral thriller from Hong Kong. Classic tale of greed, corruption and power. Terrific story telling.
