With his prior period pieces, Forman's methodical and patient camera seemed to practically revel in finding the tawdry and transgressive---exposed skin still pale from sartorial repression---in the midst of the ornate, classical, and luxurious. Juxtaposing diamond chandeliers with naked bodies, sprawling mansions with messy bedrooms, these films draw a direct line between the obscenity and malice of the ruling classes and the chaotic vulgarity of, to use the terms of the present example, "the people." Yet where as VALMONT zeroes in on the excesses of the French aristocracy of the Ancien Regime and AMADEUS focuses on the crushing conformity of the Viennese royal court, LARRY FLYNT takes aim at the hypocrisy of the American elite, the stifling morality of those who claim to protect the promise of the country while in truth attempting to extinguish the anarchy of real freedom. Gone are the manicured landscapes of French chateaus or the high ceilings of the opera house, and instead the camera lingers over the lifestyles of the modern rich and famous, from filthy strip clubs to gaudy gilded McMansions. In effect, Forman's camera is no less satirical and no less intrusive and no less honest than the cameras of Hustler magazine itself. Like Flynt explicitly comparing shots of dead bodies with women's bodies, the film rhetorically asks the viewer: What is truly the lewd, the improper, the immoral, the pornographic thing on display here´┐ 1/2 1/2"the bodies that the mansions and high fashion aim to conceal, or those ostentatiously repressive things themselves?

more innocence than you could ever hope or expect for..

The People VS. Larry Flynt

The People VS. Larry Flynt is a character driven dramatic biography about a disavowed man seeking the rights of a normal citizen.

Clocking at two hours, the feature is entirely busy that makes it thoroughly entertaining. And even though the "entertaining" part comes from the humorous aspect of it their also resides enough craft to work and explore in it. Forman's overt world is diplomatic and rubs the ethic with competitive arguments and debates that keeps the audience tangled in it.

Unlike any other biographies, it doesn't walk on usual structure but breaks barriers unflinchingly. The primary strength of the feature is the chemistry and relationship between the lead characters especially when it starts aging on screen and grows more innocence than you could ever hope or expect for.

It is short on technical aspects like sound department, costume design, cinematography and background score although it is edited aptly. The camera work is appreciative with dark and quirky theme that is palpable to the surrounding.

Harrelson has never been better with a sassy vocal that is both funny and effective at the same time. Norton too is doing some of his best work on supporting him with Love whose evolution is one of the best part of the feature. The writing is gripping, adaptive, layered and metaphorical that attains a perfect balance between humor and drama.

Armed with such strong script, Forman's execution exceeds the words that are projected in here on his own terms that is free from any rules. Pragmatic conversations, three dimensional characters and fragile love track at the heart of it are the high points of the feature.

The People VS. Larry Flynt is a Harrelson's passion as much as it of Forman's and fortunately, the communication is crystal clear with the audience.

This is a great biographical film based on the infamous Hustler magazine owner Larry Flint and his various battles with the US jurisdiction. Woody Harrlelson is in fine form as the titular character and Edward Norton, a new face when the film was made more than holds his own against far more experienced thespians. All in all if you enjoy court house films you will probably enjoy this one as well. Also Milos Forman is a legend who has made One flew over the cuckoo's nest and Amadeus and just for that you should give this one a shot.

Suffers from some of the standard biopic problems, but Forman is mostly using Flynt to examine American hypocrisy and its in those moments that movie makes itself more than worthwhile.

Underrated, a must see.

Under Milos Forman's assured direction - which brings out the best from Woody Harrelson and Courtney Love - The People Vs. Larry Flynt turns out to be a compelling biopic.

A power play, between despicability and altruism darting adeptly in a moral tennis match between a smut peddler and the slutty powers that be, whose most unbelievable aspect being Courtney Love giving an amazing performance.

Forman's direction is phonomenal; he multi-facets the film to present the film's lead as complex and ambiguous. But, the script is a mess and Harrelson doesn't assist Forman in his quest for presenting Flynt as opaquely ambivalent. However, for his acceptable effort I'll give Forman the benefit of the doubt and cut my rating straight down the middle, albeit I wouldn't recommend the film for its untidy craft.

Movie about a porn magazine mogul who first takes on censorship and then takes on Jerry Falwell. Not good. Woody Harrelson didn't convince me he was a sleazy porn man. Courtney Love was good, but one dimensional. The movie needed a better script. Very cookie cutter and boring.

Strong performance from Woody

The People vs. Larry Flynt is the beard & butter bio pic, but it takes that and brings more to the table. This is Woody Harrelson's best performance.

Like him or not, his fights for rights meant victory for us all. He stood firm on the Constitution and it held, just as it was intended.

Woody Harrelson's bravado filled performance and a solid cast make for a compelling drama with some courtroom moments. Larry Flynt creates the porn mag Hustler, and then proceeds to take on everyone from judges, Evangelicals, preachers, etc. The movie is never boring and it definitely does not hold back on this man's crazy changes from entrepreneur, changed man, prisoner, and paraplegic. The solid performances and plot keep things going, from the director of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

Powerfully moving and with a compelling fact-based story, The People Vs. Larry Flynt doesn't hold back on its share of humor that blends nicely with the true story drama and delivers excellent performances from Woody Harrelson, Courtney Love and Edward Norton.

I simply didn't care enough about the monstrous person it portrays to have any interest in this well-done movie. An immaculately painted picture of a turd is still a picture of a turd.

The biopic that explores how a man broke boundaries to porn and politics in the 1970s and 1980s
