Years after ending up on opposing sides of the law, two men are reunited by tragedy. When small-town sheriff Gene Autry (Gene Autry) and his sidekick, Frog Millhouse (Smiley Burnette), finally take down Jim "Legs" Barton (William Pawley) -- an old friend who has strayed -- a fatally injured Legs convinces Autry to adopt his soon-to-be orphaned boys. But, when a gang of outlaws discovers there's an inheritance at stake, they take a sudden interest in the rearing of the children.
