“Return of the King” soars in the final segments, as we see Elvis rise to the challenge and achieve greatness in the live-on-tape performance. Go to Full Review

Directed by Jason Hehir, the film takes a while to tell the story of this household name; it reviews his career without ever becoming a conventional biography, of which there are already a dime a dozen. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

This documentary is as much of a loving tribute to the charismatic, legendary king of rock 'n' roll as it is a biography of Elvis' life and career. Go to Full Review

You leave the film with no new stories, no new insights; all we're left with are the same old photographs, dusted off and arranged for display. If you’re looking for lighting in a bottle, just watch the original special. Go to Full Review

For a film that Netflix is marketing as being about the 1968 Comeback Special, Return of the King: The Fall and Rise of Elvis Presley spends way too much time discussing Elvis's earlier life and career. Go to Full Review

Ionela R @IILLAA Feb 24 The Return of the King: The Fall and the Rise of Elvis Presley may be one of the best Elvis documentaries you will ever see. This film goes far beyond the surface. It doesn’t just celebrate the legend — it explains the artist, the pressure, the loss of control, and ultimately the return of Elvis as a performer who still had everything to give. It gives real context to his career, his struggles, and the forces around him, without cheap sensationalism. You will learn a lot — even if you think you already know Elvis. The documentary connects the dots between his early talent, the setbacks, and the powerful comeback that reminded the world who he truly was. It treats him as a serious artist, not a caricature or a headline. . It shows why Elvis mattered then — and why he still matters now.had. I was deeply moved. Even if you think you know Elvis, this documentary will teach you so much If you want to understand Elvis Presley as more than a myth, this documentary is essential viewing See more Diana M @Dianamack Apr 4 Baz Luhrmann’s documentary is incredible in its pathos and stringing together the incredible and complex life of Elvis Presley. Like the Elvis movie, it’s a masterpiece… a work of art that brings Elvis to life. Some facets are asynchronous and a stickler to historic accuracy may find fault with. Yet, it brings light to Elvis’ unique talent, his magnetism and his struggles like no other movie or documentary has ever managed to. It’s brilliant! See more Tyler S @tylerking24 01/25/2025 One of my favorite performances by Elvis Presley! Loved seeing the lead up to this show, and what came from it. Definitely recommend to all Elvis fans and non Elvis fans. A great documentary! See more Stephen G @RT76499974 12/26/2024 A brilliant documentary. It provides some great information and insight on Elvis's early, trailblazing musical career in the 1950s and subsequent mediocre movies in the 1960s. But the real highlight is seeing the lead-up to and especially his performances in his 1968 NBC special. From the 1950s clips I'd seen, I knew he as quite a talent. But the 1968 show is a real eye-opener; it shows what an incredible performer he was. A bonus for Springsteen fans is Bruce's astute comments on Elvis and on how Elvis inspired his own career. See more Mike S @Whatever122333 12/23/2024 The documentary itself was great, definitely learned a lot about Elvis that I didn’t know and was intrigued. After watching this I also watched the Elvis movie, and they complimented each other well. I knocked off a star and half only because of the current “celebrity” people they interviewed in this..bruce springsteen??? billy corigan?? and conan o’brien??? wth? I have nothing specifically against these people, (I do NOT like springsteen, but that’s not my problem with him in this).. I don’t think the 3 of them would be fit to even shine Elvis’s shoes..springsteen couldn’t sing his way out of paper bag, and corigan Id say double on that..I mean he’s alright with smashing pumpkins, but most of that is digital enhanced BS - I heard he’s horrible live in concert.. I’m not even going to venture a guess as to why they would put o’brien in this, the guys a comedian (I guess)..Not sure why his opinions on this topic are at all relevant 🤷‍♂️ I think they could have picked or found better people to interview and get the opinions of. Maybe musicians who could actually hold even a fraction of a candle to Elvis? Idk..But these were bad choices in my opinion.. Other than that great documentary 👍🏻 See more Michael W @mawilps 12/14/2024 This rock' n 'roll documentary was great. The entire crew did an excellent job on making this documentary about the Elvis Presley's comeback in 1968. It was very interesting to learn more about who Elvis really was and who he wanted to be at the time. If you haven't seen this documentary yet, check it out sometime. It's worth watching.
