Talaash presents a high standard for the best of what India can do.

The film hooks you from first shot onwards and refuses to let go. The suspense is maintained throughout. There are enough red herrings to keep a convention of Agatha Christie fans happy.

Talaash is two different films rolled into one... While the latter is a very affecting and compelling track, the former leaves one very dissatisfied.

The great pleasure of the film is watching how Reema Kagti and co-writer Zoya Akhtar slowly pull the many strands of the action together.

Talaash starts out as a smart, well-written noir-ish thriller... Pity about the second half.

[Aamir Khan] manages to tear up the screen every time he appears on it.

Performances are uniformly impressive, with Khan proving again that he is the finest actor of his generation.

This is a film that is as unexpected as it is unforgettable.

If you average it out, Talaash is well worth the price of a ticket.

There is so much going for this compelling, slow-burning, well-acted tale set in the dark, grimy underbelly of Mumbai that you can barely take your eye off the screen.

A moving and quietly powerful study of the ongoing yet not always obvious damage suffered in the long wake of loss.

Stylish and initially intriguing with a decent performance by Aamir Khan (and his mustache), but underwhelming, banal, tedious and lacks palpable suspense.

The film grabs on tight and doesn't let go.

Ultimately the movie's many strands come together for a final twist, but it's too little too late for this regrettably mediocre Bollywood import.

This patchwork script had a certain promise to it, packed with characters and story threads that don't really lead anywhere. But the film has a decidedly Eastern sense of pace. It's slower than slow...

Talaash will confound, bewilder, intrigue and enthral you. A film worth thinking about.

Polished and seductive
