  • Perhaps the very first made-for-vid prequel to a spinoff from a sequel to a remake, The Scorpion King 2: Rise of a Warrior suggests a CW television network version of a swords-and-sorcery saga.

  • Lightly entertaining but forgettable B-actioner best described as JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS meets HERCULES: THE LEGENDARY JOURNEYS.

  • Just maybe worthy of a bored afternoon, provided you're either A) 14 years old, or B) a longtime fan of the "quest" movies and you want something to poke a little fun at. (Or maybe not.)

A lower point than even Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. Made exactly one smart decision in its entire 109 minute runtime, and it was a financial one.

Just as bad as you think it would be, I enjoyed the first Scorpion King then they go and ruin it by making unwanted straight to DVD sequels/prequels, The story is boring, The acting was bad, The action was poor and the effects were pretty bad too, Maybe it would of been acceptable as a TV spin-off but as a film it's terrible, The only thing I thought wasn't terrible was casting Michael Copon to play a young Mathayus but apart from that avoid if possible.

Appallingly bad, The Scorpion King: Rise of a Warrior is unwatchable garbage. A prequel, the film follows a young Mathayus as he goes on a quest to the underworld to get a mystical weapon that will allow him to kill the sorcerer who murdered his father. The acting is horrendously bad; especially Karen David who chews the scenery and is annoying as all get-out. Additionally, the sets look incredibly cheap and the CGI is terrible. And, the plot couldn't be more formulaic and clichéd. The Scorpion King: Rise of a Warrior is an abysmal film that has virtually nothing to do with the original.

The Scorpion King 2: Rise of a Warrior (previously known as The Scorpion King: Rise of the Akkadian) is a 2008 direct-to-DVD prequel to the 2002 film The Scorpion King starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as Mathayus, the warrior who takes on an evil army attacking his homeland. The Scorpion King 2 stars Michael Copon as a young Mathayus who trains to become one of his king's warriors. When he witnesses his father's death at the hands of an evil military commander (UFC champion Randy Couture as King Sargon), his quest for vengeance transforms him into the most feared warrior of the ancient world. Mathayus hooks up with an old friend named Layla (Karen Shenaz David), a Greek named Aristophanes (Simon Quarterman), an acrobat Fong (Tom Wu), and some other guys devoted to the boy-warrior's quest. The plan is simple: break into the underworld, defeat a Minotaur that feasts on men, and steal a magical, unbreakable sword. First, however, Mathayus must face The Queen of the Underworld, a goddess named Lady Astarte (Natalie Becker). I thought the Underworld was ruled by Hades, not some seductive dark witch but what's an action flick without eye candy eh? And I am not speaking of Michael Copon, best known for playing the Blue Power Ranger in Power Rangers who may not be as physically imposing as The Rock but he's got a solid physique and admirably carries the role of the younger character. <a href="http://tinypic.com?ref=23h1t0m" target="_blank"><img src="http://i55.tinypic.com/23h1t0m.jpg" border="0" alt="Image and video hosting by TinyPic"></a> <a href="http://tinypic.com?ref=2u94rhd" target="_blank"><img src="http://i55.tinypic.com/2u94rhd.jpg" border="0" alt="Image and video hosting by TinyPic"></a> <a href="http://tinypic.com?ref=262rrxy" target="_blank"><img src="http://i51.tinypic.com/262rrxy.jpg" border="0" alt="Image and video hosting by TinyPic"></a> <a href="http://tinypic.com?ref=azif5j" target="_blank"><img src="http://i52.tinypic.com/azif5j.jpg" border="0" alt="Image and video hosting by TinyPic"></a> <a href="http://tinypic.com?ref=sxndkx" target="_blank"><img src="http://i53.tinypic.com/sxndkx.jpg" border="0" alt="Image and video hosting by TinyPic"></a> <a href="http://tinypic.com?ref=11jpw5s" target="_blank"><img src="http://i55.tinypic.com/11jpw5s.jpg" border="0" alt="Image and video hosting by TinyPic"></a> <a href="http://tinypic.com?ref=33pg5g2" target="_blank"><img src="http://i54.tinypic.com/33pg5g2.jpg" border="0" alt="Image and video hosting by TinyPic"></a>
