Though several distinctive animated movies have been released this year, "The Thief and the Cobbler," even in its sadly incomplete state, leaves them in the dust.
An Aladdin rip-off burdened by songs so dreadful that even Academy voters will refuse to nominate them.
This is simply one of the most important and best animated features ever made. Or not made. Or whatever.
It is a brutal triumph of style and a bitter fiasco of substance.
A must for family viewing.
35 years in the making, but does it hold up? No. This version is just garbage, Vincent Price is enjoyable in this film, and the animation is fantastic, but Tack and the Thief never shut up, and the characters are so stupid.
But the Recobbled Cut im using the rating for rather than the theatrical released film. The characters are much funnier and more enjoyable rather than annoying and not shutting up, Tac and the Thief are actually silent in this, and much funnier. The only problem I have with this film, is the final fight at the end of the film drags on way too long. Sure the animation is nice in the whole scene but it just goes on, and on, and on, to the point that its annoying. But the full picture with all the missing scenes in the film finally put into a film, and the end result is fantastic
this 28 yr labor of love by master animator richard williams was virtually destroyed when he lost control of it, leading to the disastrous theatrical cut with matthew broderick and jonathan winters, but thanks to rabid fans and it's near legendary status, his original vision has been reconstructed as nearly as possible, using a workprint, drawings and matte paintings. it's some of the most spectacular animation you'll ever see and includes the last voice work of vincent price. there are now 4 versions of the film but this unofficial fan version follows the workprint very closely and can be seen here: http://youtu.be/E62ibzd8WX4
The Recobbled Cut version of the film might just make it the best animated film ever made!!! The Animation is the best i have ever seen.
Don't watch those shit edited re-done version with new animation...No that doesn't work.
It had me wanting to call it the best animated film ever. Awesome voice acting and funny ending.
I really liked this movie, and I highly recommend it. It may seem at first that they were just trying to be like Aladdin, but this movie is completely different. It has a fantastic art style that just amazes the audience. Plus, the story is a classic tale.
