The spineless King from the first season returns with a greed for power; the real Queen battles her soul-shifting nemesis; the Crown Prince rescues a turtle to please a crush; & a half brother enforces a reign of terror on everyone, including his sister. Go to Full Review

Overall then, Alchemy of Souls season two has an element of both past and present to it, a quality which helps it feel both wholly unique from the first installment and equal parts familiar. Go to Full Review

In Alchemy of Souls, we are constantly forced to doubt the rules, partly because the story – just as life – is indeed unpredictable, but mostly because the rules that govern the magical land of Daeho keep changing. Go to Full Review

Brianna W Oct 17 An Emotional, Beautifully Earned Finale Alchemy of Souls: Season 2 deepens everything that made the first season unforgettable. The characters have so much emotional depth, and the story hits even harder—achingly beautiful, full of longing and quiet heartbreak. Despite the female lead change, the chemistry remained incredible, carrying every moment with intensity and grace. The ending was deeply satisfying and heartfelt—I just wish there had been more episodes to linger in that world a little longer. See more Olga N Sep 8 I enjoyed watching this TV show. I didn’t expect to love S1 as much as I did, and I didn’t expect to grieve at the end of it as much as I did. But since I knew they were changing actresses at the end of S1 I tried to be open-minded about the route the director and writers would take. I give props to the new actress of S2, because she did a great job based on the directions given her. Unfortunately, the portrayal of Naksu’s character in the manner played, did not gel for many of us. Many people try to rationalize the change by saying, she lost her memory, or the personality she had was the one she would have had, if she hadn’t had to go through assassin training. Those are cop-out reasons. We go through life developing our character, this life-training is what makes us who we are. Those experiences mold us to become the person we become. The Naksu at the end of S1 became a deeper more poignant soul because of the decisions she had made throughout her time with the ML. She grew and changed. And we, the audience grew and changed with her. Season 2’s Naksu (or Bu Yeon) did not have the same depth of character/personality/soul. Jung Ok did not recognize her. And as the audience, we did not recognize her as well. I attribute this to the direction the actress got from the director. On the screen, this does not work, because there is no tie-in. In books, this might work, because we read internal thoughts and descriptions. But I’m sad and a bit angry. Because if there were just a few tweaks to her depicted character (and of course, to the pacing of the story-telling), this could have been a much better season. Phenomenal even. Kudos on the world-building though. Exceptional concept.
