More than 300 years in the future, society has been transformed by new technology, leading to human bodies being interchangeable and death no longer being permanent. Takeshi Kovacs is the only surviving soldier of a group of elite interstellar warriors who were defeated in an uprising against the new world order. His mind was imprisoned for centuries until impossibly wealthy businessman Laurens Bancroft offers him the chance to live again. Kovacs will have to do something for Bancroft, though, if he wants to be resurrected. Bancroft's request of Kovacs is to solve a murder -- Bancroft's. "Altered Carbon" is based on Richard K. Morgan's cyberpunk noir novel of the same name.

Mackie gives Kovacs a suitable sort of intensity and loose-limbed physicality... New showrunner Alison Schapker (Lost, Fringe) continues expanding a fascinating world out of the novels by Richard K. Morgan. Go to Full Review

It is strangely reassuring to know that, even in the 24th century, wearing a scuffed leather jacket over a black hoodie is still the universal symbol of anti-hero cool. Go to Full Review

Mackie feels like an upgrade on Kinnaman generally, although the overheated voiceover isn't doing him any favors. Go to Full Review

For intriguing sci-fi action, stick with that strong first season. For the big questions, fellow Netflix original The Good Place is just a few short clicks away. Go to Full Review

Altered Carbon's biggest asset is its visually amazing universe, and the endless possibilities that come with it. Season 2 is somewhat better than 1. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

It had good moments, it had bad moments, it had dull moments. I kind of wish now that there was just Season 1 standing alone as a great example of the genre... Go to Full Review

Michael M. @SpideyJ Feb 23 Pretty disappointing after how good season 1 was. See more Marco L @decatur555 Feb 5 Altered Carbon’s second season takes a sharp turn with a new lead, a lighter tone, and a more streamlined approach. Anthony Mackie brings a physical, energetic presence to Takeshi Kovacs, pushing the series toward faster pacing and straightforward action. While this makes the season easier to watch, it also strips away some of the depth and melancholy that defined the first run. The big ideas about immortality, identity, and alienation take a back seat to a more conventional narrative. Visually, the show remains strong, with polished cyberpunk imagery and solid effects, though the world now feels cleaner and less risky. The story is more focused, but also more predictable, favoring closure over discomfort. As entertainment, it works. As an evolution, it feels limited. The season is enjoyable and accessible, but less daring, leaving the impression that the universe still had far more potential than what’s explored here. See more babarizam D @RT59932316 Feb 1 I felt uncomfortable after watching 1st episode of season 2. It lacked that dark sensation of first season See more Will M @Mass9126 Jan 6 Very sad to see a brilliant season 1 (almost perfect show) nearly ruined by miscasting and complete character assassination. Tak was a brilliant character who used his mind to get what he needed out of others for a greater good. He lacked empathy and was driven almost like a machine. By season 2 he had wasted all his money and was wandering around looking for Quell acting weak, and vulnerable. It made zero sense. Even if you can forgive that as "character development," he never seems to be a step ahead and often stumbles onto plot twists via complete luck or incompetence in season 2. It’s a weird turn, I don’t blame the actors but the writers. The world building and concept of people living forever was so fascinating. The second season just treated those concepts as a plot point rather than the motivation for everyone’s existence. Very sad See more Darío M @Moyita3359 Dec 17 Ciertamente no es tan buena como la primera, cambia personajes y nos cuentan una historia totalmente distinta con el "mismo protagonista" sin embargo, el final es bastante bueno See more Matt V @MothBall755 Nov 7 Season one was so amazing, but the second season fell short. The second season story isnt quite as interesting, but the writing is pretty good. The acting is what really made it fall apart for me. Anthony Mackie is a terrible actor and his performance as Tak was borderline unwatchable. His skills fall so unbelievably short of Joel Kinnaman from the first season. Awful casting choice.
