Critic Reviews for Archer Season 5

All Critics (12) | Top Critics (3)

This new season has been reassuring proof that Archer can explore new territory while remaining true to itself.

It's still reliably dirty... but in the service of something much grimier and at once totally fresh. It's also very, very funny.

Jan 22, 2014 | Full Review…

The plots are perfunctory. The premise is beside the point. Archer just has funny characters, and trusts that their innate hilarity will keep people's attention.

A rare, but refreshing move for an animated series...

Jun 12, 2018 | Full Review…

[Rebooting] gives the series new life. Not that it was floundering at all, but there was a certain circuitousness to the plotlines that Archer Vice not only interrupts, but short-circuits completely.

Jan 27, 2014 | Rating: 7/10 | Full Review…

The episode succeeded in assuring fans things won't really change all that much, and the show is in the right hands.

Jan 20, 2014 | Rating: 8.8/10 | Full Review…

Archer's affection for character and craft makes it more likely to be remembered as one of the great TV shows of our time, and not just another dirty cartoon.

Jan 15, 2014 | Rating: 8/10 | Full Review…

You already had me hooked, Archer; just don't make such a desperate sales pitch at me anymore and I'm sure we will still be cool.

Kudos to Adam Reed and friends for not being afraid of change and keeping things fresh.

Packed with its usual share of action and comedy, Archer's refresh injects some welcome energy into the adrenaline-fueled animated series as it continues to be one of the funniest shows on TV.

Audience Reviews for Archer: Season 5

  • Jan 02, 2019
Excellent comedy. The entire cast is a talented set of voices and the artwork is entertaining. The relationships are constantly surprising and entertaining. A must watch for the mature adult who doesn't want to be too mature. This is the first introduction of a character that I don't care for, but the actor is one I do like. It almost feels like an attempt to redo Odin with another approach. Still excellent.

One Of The only TV series That can actually change the whole plot in a season and Be as goOd as ever
  • Jan 17, 2018
Ambitiously turning Season 5 into an entirely new concept appropriately titled 'Archer: Vice', Archer continues to prove itself and one of the smartest and ambitious comedies on TV.
  • Jul 16, 2017
An adult orientated comedy that, as soon as the episode is finished, you can't wait to see the next one.
  • Mar 17, 2017
Season 5 explores other settings and shakes up the status quo a bit with seamless ease.
  • Jan 22, 2016
Amazing characters, long story, and writing. Wow!
  • Sep 21, 2015
Though intermediately funny, with Season 5, Archer loses its momentum when it tries to deliver too many changes to a proven formula.
  • Mar 23, 2015
One of the funniest seasons of any show.

Although Archer's 5th season was getting plenty of hype for being a "reboot" season, the show's formula stayed more-or-less in tact this year. It still had the same dirty sense-of-humor, office-space/action-tropes satire, deplorable-yet-likable characters, and quick pacing, but that's not to say this season did it any worse! The serialized storytelling was done better than ever this year, and the drug-based humor is some of the most audacious I've ever seen done on US television (Pam is insane this year!). Also, the build-up to the twist ending is rarely seen in comedy series of this ilk, and hopefully suggests even more left-field turns for Archer. Possibly the show's best season yet!
