mike l @MikeLance 10/23/2022 Winding Refn, Italian Style See more ZapplePuter 08/23/2022 it makes me sad that the most legitimate reviews of this series fall on either side of a line that only exists for the bigoted; in the US, one is either a liberal (Rotten Tomatoes) and unlikely to watch enough of the show to fully appreciate it, because of the language barrier combined with.. the mafia and violence.. the cartoonish stylings of the show's many visually disorienting dream/fantasy sequences, etc.. or one is a conservative (IMDB) whose entire world view is threatened by the inscrutible brilliance of this show's depth, and heart, and sheer art. this is one of the highest quality productions i've seen, and i'm a cinemaholic of 45 years; as a woodworker, metal worker, and a former film major, i've got to say that the small details that nearly every decent series is either, ignorant of, or lazy about, this show gets right; e.g. moments like Nonna Lina's registering of the cleaver 1st like a knife, back and forth, before raising it to hack her lover to pieces... this series was made by people who have lived and painstakingly thought about how others do. i'm incredibly impressed.. and here i was thinking that The Boys was my new favorite series :] frankly, any critic incapable of recognizing the superlatively creative, boundary forsaking, and perspective shattering eloquence that this show tastefully and carefully dispenses, imho, is too caught up in their own melodramatic, modern world to see the forest for the F'n trees...
