What to Know

Critics Consensus

Ali Wong and Steven Yeun are a diabolically watchable pair of adversaries in Beef, a prime cut comedy that finds the pathos in pettiness.

No show captured 2023’s undercurrent of unfocused discontent with the intensity, empathy and underlying humor of Lee Sung Jin’s eight-episode Beef. Go to Full Review

At first, this simple yet amusing premise seems better suited to a 90-minute feature than a 10-episode Netflix series. But it soon becomes apparent that Lee is doing more than just a live-action Looney Tunes bit. Go to Full Review

This is a nerve-jangling, synapse-zinging ride into madness, and it’s great. Go to Full Review

A different story that escalates in violence and depth with a good treatment of interesting themes. It can be a bit repetitive in its development, but is short and dynamic, that makes it entertaining and captivating to watch. [Full Review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Johnny B @Johnnymello Jan 17 Shocking, funny, and incisive, the first season of Beef is a point of no return for anyone looking for a pathetic portrayal of high society and the irrelevance of its contrasts. Diabolical performances and a script so sharp and effervescent that, by the time we reach the end, the conclusion is so improbable and absurd it feels more apocalyptic than merely despicable. See more xavier s @zlimitzero Dec 5 Beef is a perfect show. A perfectly rounded out story, amazing pacing, and a star studded cast list makes this show one of the best things that have ever happened to me. The contrast between Danny and Amy throughout is one of my favorite parts - they wrote these two characters so perfectly alike while still being able to develop these two characters as their own separate people. This show made me want to know so much more about Danny and Amy but if they made a second season (continuing their story) i would be furious because of HOW GOOD THEY LANDED THE ENDING. On top of everything listed, one of the best parts are the side characters. All likable for their own different reason, and they were all mixed very well into the script without giving them too much focus but also making them pivotal to the story. I am very picky when it comes to cinema, but god, this show made me feel something i will probably feel about a very select amount of shows in my lifetime. WHAT a beauty See more Benjamin H Nov 17 Although there are parts of the story that is a bit uneven and could have been handled better, Beef is a sharp and well-rounded comedy-drama with a solid cast of characters alongside superb writing and direction and two awesome performances by Ali Wong and Steven Yeun.
