There’s pure pleasure to be found in the writing, which is sharp and smart and natural; the direction, which shapes and is shaped by the evolving material without getting in its way; and uniformly marvelous performances. Go to Full Review

While the premise of “Demascus” is enticing — what might our lives look like with small changes? — the six-episode series doesn’t live up to its initial promise. Go to Full Review

Onaodowan makes an excellent central figure, an actor who can convey a sense of inertia without making the character himself boring. Go to Full Review
Brooke Obie Black Girl Watching Aug 24
The pilot is one of the funniest I’ve seen in awhile though the finale ends with a bait-and-switch that's taboo in the genre. But the love letter to Black motherhood, the exploration of Black male mental health and genuine laughs keep you through the end. Go to Full Review

This series feels like it could be an offshoot of 'Black Mirror' (2011)... [and] akin to Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwon's 'Everything Everywhere All At Once' (2022) and it feels as though Chisholm was inspired by that Oscar-winning film. Go to Full Review

This series blends cerebral sci-fi elements with chaotic comedy; Demascus is refreshing, unique, and vulnerable. Go to Full Review

Shaunte N P @RT26014336 Oct 8 I loved the acting and the overall concept—it’s creative, thought-provoking, and full of potential! However, the writing could use a bit more depth and clarity. I often found myself hoping the therapy sessions would reveal more of who he really was—his thoughts, emotions, and reflections as he explored these different subconscious realities. It’s okay to leave some things open to interpretation, but at times it felt like there wasn’t enough dialogue unpacking why he made certain decisions or how he felt about what he experienced in those alternate versions of himself. Maybe the episodes just need to be a little longer to allow that development. Even with those moments that felt a little flat, I still genuinely enjoyed the show. The actors brought life to the script, and the concept is strong enough that I’d absolutely love to see a second season! See more tange T @Tange Sep 9 An under-the-radar gem. It starts off hilarious, it’s a great thought-provoking comedy. with VR sci fi. That should be enough to get you to want to see it, but if you need more convincing. You start to get the fuller range of cozy and sharp humor around the struggles in Demascus’s life. Start to see layers of his inner life. His families, the people in his orbit and different kinds of bonds and issues and unsolicited advice they have, resurfacing across some entertainingly different personas. The connection and disconnection he moves through, we all move through, seeking connection, circling around the core wound of his heart. Recurring themes mirrored back to him across alternate realities and possible lives. and some ridiculous scenarios. Also I want all my social critiques delivered in this format. For me it was a totally worthwhile journey. Honestly it was healing to watch. Hope they make a second season! See more Nathan P. @NudleBee Sep 5 I loved it, found it very unique and refreshing. Well placed comic relief, while using the concept of different realities to tell multiple stories that all felt impactful and insightful. The shows title to me is a play on both a common name and the biblical story. I think this also answer the mystery of the ending. Far from a religious person myself, is it not difficult to put Demascus and the road to Damascus together. This show is clearly about the road to profound change in life direction all encapsulated in a fun sci-fi package. See more Jetshark970 S @RT00313641 Aug 31 This series was extremely entertaining and hit on many cultural marks of being a person of color in modern society and how it weighs on our mental health ranging from code switching, generational trauma, financial issues, guilt of being the educated friend or family member that achieved some sort of financial stability in your early 30's. Then the show had legends from Martin Lawrence, Lynn Whitfield, Janet Hubert(Black Aunt Viv), music by Raphael Saadiq(Tony! Toni! Toné! & Lucy Pearl). Definitely hope to see more.
