One of the quintessential 1980s prime-time soaps, "Dynasty" follows the gloriously over-the-top trials and tribulations of the fabulously wealthy and none-to-nice Carrington and Colby clans. Come for the catfights, stay for the shoulder pads and scenery chewing.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Dynasty is an opulent successor to the salacious dramas that it unabashedly borrows from, although viewers may find this backstabbing house to be less compelling than its television neighbors.

Dynasty has some great lines, even if most of them are downright bitchy cliches. You don't care, because everything is so lavish, colorful and screaming of money, money, money that elegance and pomp over? shadow the banality. Go to Full Review

A heated-up Dallas. It looks more expensive. It oozes wealth, with limousines, mansions, private jets and glamorous gowns flashed in every frame. Go to Full Review

Dynasty, the latest soapie from the American froth-and-bubble production line, is worth watching. Once. After that the joke wears thin. Go to Full Review

The shameful truth about Dynasty, which has to be spat out and sanded over, is that it is entirely wonderful: well-plotted, finely shot, sensitively acted, literate, artistic, and deeply moving. Go to Full Review

Dallas is a soap opera, concerned with the problems and passions of its characters. Dynasty belongs in he different, more celestially and libidinally glossy genre we might call the orgiastic ad; its subject is possessions. Go to Full Review

Mike P @RT09890132 11/02/2024 Aaron Spelling's copycat cousin to Dallas; which is just as enjoyable, really, in it's own way... It's another bloody Oil Barron's Ball; and another Battle Royale and Succession-type war to become king of the world in the Oil Industry... But this time in mountainous Colorado; not Southern Dallas...And actually, Spelling and the Shapiros always strived to make the Carringtons international jet-setters; not bed-bound to one city; but constantly globe-trotting to NYC, Milan and London...And always purveyors of the glossiest high-fashion styles of the day...And where Dynasty shows tended to look like the covers of GQ, Town and Country and Vogue; Dallas tended to look like He-Haw episodes...And that's all by design. And Alexis absolutely holds her own with villainous Dallas Super-Star J.R. Ewing...Maybe even surpasses him. So, worth watching, if you're up for some sexy, flashy and fun 80s prime time trash...
