Ray Barone is a successful sports writer and family man who deals with a brother and parents -- who happen to live across the street. Mom Marie loves to meddle in his life, while older brother Robert sometimes resents his success, and Dad Frank just makes comments and raids the fridge. Nevertheless, Ray manages to keep a bright outlook and a sense of humor, leaving the hard issues to his more-practical wife, Debra.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Everybody Loves Raymond may have overstayed its welcome by a season or so, but the Barone family remains lovable company thanks to their begrudging love for each other.

Everybody Loves Raymond was, above all, a product that worked, a well-made show whose writers managed to play a lot of variations within the narrow confines of its premise and its predictability. Go to Full Review

No deep critical digging required to unearth the secret of the show's nine-year run, which ends with Monday's 210th episode. The Barones took a pass on controversy and innovation. Instead, they served up reliable, often giddy comic relief. Go to Full Review

Here's how it feels: phew. "Raymond" was a once-great show that overstayed its creative apex, just like "Friends." Unlike "Friends," it doesn't promise a cliffhanger conclusion. Go to Full Review

As much as I respect the whole cast of "Raymond," every time I watched the show I always wished it had revolved around Garrett, not Ray Romano. Go to Full Review

We all see similarities between the Barones and members of our own families. It's a sitcom, not a documentary. And it's obviously intended to make us laugh. But the characters' behavior rang true. Go to Full Review

04/13/2022 Funny and original; LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In memory of Peter Boyle and Doris Roberts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! See more Robert M @Robert55 07/18/2020 I don't think Raymond overstayed it's shelf life by a year. The health of Peter Boyle and Doris Roberts may have limited the story line to be narrated by the remaining 4 characters (Ray, Deb, Robert and Amy). But in Season 9 there still is the tension and comedy related to the Barone clan. As a huge fan with all the seasons on DVD, I can say I appreciate the effort of a ninth, and difficult season. Sure, it's not as amusing as the first 8 seasons but it does have it's great moment, drama and comedy wise. See more Read all reviews
