The suspenseful script penned by British writer Matt Charman (Bridge of Spies) has plot holes as wide and deep as the English Channel. Go to Full Review

At times, it feels formulaic and contrived, some of its twists and turns predictable. Nevertheless, it is a highly entertaining thriller with neat ties to today’s political moment. Go to Full Review

It is, if nothing else, enjoyable to watch our chic leads strutting around the halls of power in their beautifully tailored coats and trouser suits, looking every inch the heads of state as they exchange frosty smiles and handshakes for the camera. Go to Full Review

Hostage might be provocatively unrealistic, but unlike many modern political thrillers, it is at least lively, not deadly dull. Go to Full Review

The story keeps up the pace with each complicated curveball thrown at it, and the performances are strong. Go to Full Review

Watching a show like this, about intelligent political leadership, is invigorating, even if it feels, at the moment, as fantastical and far away as something out of Game of Thrones. Go to Full Review

Andrew B @Nutty Feb 9 Who cares if there are plot holes and the story deviates from reality. The acting is superb, love the various relationships between the characters as they develop and change, it's thrilling and never boring. The scenery is great. It kept us on the edge of our seat. It's definitely worth watching if you want a really exciting thriller. Can throughly recommend. See more Brad H @bhadfield Feb 9 Laughable. The Prime Minister and her staff investigate everything. No MI5, no Scotland Yard, nobody. Stunningly stupid. See more LJ S @LJ_Smyth Jan 17 Not bad as a political thriller, but as for Suranne Jones the British PM, she needs to get a nose job before she does any other work on screen! I couldn't stop looking at it! I can't even describe how distracting it is, in fact I created this account just so I can rant about it. Sorry Suranne, I know it's not polite and I'm not perfect but I'm also not putting my a$$ out there... See more Ian F Dec 2 Wow utter utter unbelievable rubbish. No depth, lots of coincidences, beyond tenuous links, baddies just turn up in the right places at the right time and forget what would really happen in the real world. When I thought it couldn’t get worse…. Hours wasted. Don’t bother. (ENGLISH) Hostage is one of those shows you can binge in a single sitting. With just five episodes, it keeps the tension alive from start to finish, never letting up. The pacing is sharp, and each chapter ends in a way that makes you want to keep going, making the experience highly addictive. The script doesn’t reinvent the political thriller, but it maintains a steady pulse, mixing conspiracies, twists, and betrayals that work because the characters always remain at the center. What really matters here isn’t just the plot, but how loyalties collide and how each decision shifts the balance of power. The lead actors deliver strong performances, bringing credibility to a story that could have otherwise felt thin. Their chemistry and craft help elevate the suspense. At times it piles on conflict too quickly, but with such a short season, the choice to keep it tight works in its favor. In the end, Hostage is a compact, tense, and entertaining thriller. It won’t redefine the genre, but it does exactly what it sets out to do: keep you hooked until the very last minute. See more Kyle J Nov 19 Totally acceptable evening television. Will absolutely make you loathe British journalism even more than you already do. If nothing else, completely hits the nail on the head with that lot. See more Read all reviews
