Critics Consensus

Anya Taylor-Joy is Lucky in an entertaining bit of thrilling fare that often promises more than it can deliver but never lets the audience down when it comes to action and intrigue.

It's a wild ride, as aggressively entertaining as its theme song. Go to Full Review

Anya Taylor-Joy’s scrappy protagonist grifts her way out of problems in this compelling and unpredictable drama. No luck required. Go to Full Review

Quantity is rarely the same as quality in episodic television, and “Lucky,” to its credit, steers clear of the bloat epidemic that plagues so much current TV. That’s a big reason why it’s such a bloody good time. Go to Full Review

Normally one of the joys of the on-the-run genre is the protagonist’s ingenuity in keeping one step ahead of his pursuers. Here, it’s barely necessary... Easy. Too easy. Almost like entertainment, but not entertainment. Go to Full Review

As a weekly series, Taylor-Joy keeps you invested in the crime thriller. The actual details of the narrative about the stolen money and crime operation that Lucky and Cary's parents are involved in are too vague. Go to Full Review

Max B @maxzbear 13h Again, th review bashers inability to distinguish between a series that is supposed to be meaningful versus one that is purely for entertainment purposes. Secondly, the story is outrageous, and the sequences portrayed are in fact impossible, but that's what makes some series intriguing. The series character archetypes are in fact somewhat cliché—you have the highly flawed father, the psychopathic crime boss, along with many others—however, that does not mean that the series execution is also flawed. The main reason for this rant is that it is because of these people, along with several other factors, that streaming services have now become much more resistant to releasing future projects. The lack of ability to see the intention behind certain projects, and then bashing them based entirely on emotion, is not helpful discourse. Ultimately, my main frustration is that word spreads faster than ever now, and we need to be more aware of how these negative thoughts impact what we get to watch See more Matthew M @kittycatman6987 20h Anya’s acting is good but I don’t like most the other characters. Not a good pick for her. There is something wrong with the flow of this show. See more Zachary G @RT90360150 1d Anna Taylor Joys agent is atrocious! What are you doing with such a talented actress? Just painful. See more William M @RT21898628 2d Painfully bad. Dumb. Main character makes 80’s horror movie victims look smart. Just terribly written. See more Kevin E @Madmols12 2d Annette Benning is terrible in her role. Any scene with her in it just makes the show feel satirical. Actually the more you watch the more the entire show feels like satire. Apple wasted a great opportunity to showcase a rising star in Anya-Taylor Joy. See more Debbie F @RT73011884 3d Always love Anya Taylor-Joy, and the other actors are great, as well! Entertaining, fast-paced story. Worth watching. See more Read all reviews
