Critic Reviews for Mad About You Season 1
All Critics (19) | Top Critics (10) | Fresh (8) | Rotten (11)
Watching Mad About You feels like visiting each and every long-term couple I know - but there's still not much to be said, or that many laughs to be had.
Is it worth watching? If you liked the original, I think so. But of course, if you don't have Spectrum, it's irrelevant, because you can't watch it.
Spectrum's Mad About You reboot is agreeable enough to coax some smiles and even a little audible laughter on occasion.
Paul and Jamie are so awful in their return that it's hard to remember why we liked watching them every week in the first place.
It's kind of fun seeing Reiser and Hunt slip back into these characters, but as is so often true with these exercises, the kick/novelty pretty quickly wears off.
It's a soft incitement and leads to a soft reboot. It's pretty middle-of-the-road stuff and you never feel like NBC made a mistake in not wanting this reboot
Naturally it's now something of an intergenerational comedy, but the scripts are still strong and Hunt and Reiser amply demonstrate that they still have chutzpah and chemistry in spades.
None of this is great art, by any stretch... but I still found myself feeling a certain affection for it.
Reiser and Hunt still have chemistry.
The revival of Mad About You is a pleasant watch that doesn't try to do too much or remind you of the original series. And, as far as revivals go, that's pretty good.
Mad About You should be warm comfort food for fans of the series. For new viewers it's a reminder of what sitcoms were like in the heyday of network television.
The revival's biggest offense is simply feeling like a relic of a different time.
