Created by Bill Dubuque ("The Accountant," "The Judge"), this drama series stars Jason Bateman as Marty Byrde, a financial planner who relocates his family from Chicago to a summer resort community in the Ozarks. With wife Wendy and their two kids in tow, Marty is on the move after a money-laundering scheme goes wrong, forcing him to pay off a substantial debt to a Mexican drug lord in order to keep his family safe. While the Byrdes' fate hangs in the balance, the dire circumstances force the fractured family to reconnect.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Ozark hasn't gotten out clean just yet, but its mesmeric performances and taut suspense signal that the Byrde clan are as entertainingly resourceful as ever.

... A grimly entertaining labyrinthine narrative and compelling performances from Laura Linney and Jason Bateman. Go to Full Review

Yes, I watched the second half of the Netflix hit series’ final season, and no, it wasn’t good. And I say this as someone who used to like the show. Go to Full Review

Compared to Part 1 of this fourth and final season, this last batch of seven episodes is sleek, direct, and action-packed. Go to Full Review

When audiences watched Marty Byrde (Jason Bateman) as his business partner dissolved in acid, it delivered a statement of intent, which this final season delivers on in spades. Go to Full Review

Marco L @decatur555 Dec 21 Ozark makes one thing clear from the start: no one is innocent here. There’s no clean redemption and no harmless choices. Everyone ends up crossing lines, and the series never looks away. It begins like a familiar crime thriller, but slowly becomes colder, quieter, and far less interested in spectacle than its peers. The strength of the show lies in its characters, all of them morally compromised and constantly justifying their actions to survive a little longer. Marty and Wendy are two faces of the same corruption, while Ruth stands out as the emotional core of the series. Julia Garner delivers a truly unforgettable performance. Visually bleak and emotionally draining by design, Ozark builds a suffocating atmosphere where power, money, and fear contaminate everything they touch. It’s not always comfortable to watch, but it remains consistent and gripping until the end. No heroes, no winners — just consequences.
