It's one of the most honest episodes the show has ever produced, though, and the acting is powerhouse. Bottom line? This show is as good at contemplation as it is at shootouts.

Holes featured a solid amount of character development of our favorite vampire.

"Holes" isn't a bad hour of television, but it could have been much stronger if your interest lies solely in Jesse... But if a different immortal, delinquent da is holding your attention (as it is for me), then this is definitely one hell of an episode.

A definite slump after last week's Herr Starr intro. It's sad that the side stories outshine our heroes whenever the pace slackens, but it seems to be par for the course on the show.

There was nothing especially bad about :Holes," but merely a nagging sense that the show is again losing momentum and rehashing familiar beats rather than pushing Jesse Custer's quest forward.

There are small bits of momentum here and there, but not enough considering the lack of overall story or character meat. Tulip and Cassidy's apathy for the mission at times feels like it applies to the series as a whole.

This week, everyone's trapped in their own private hells (literally in one case), and the result, while not the most gripping entry of the season, gets back the sense of rising action that was lost when Jesse managed to derail the Saint.

It's not a terrible hour of Preacher by any means, but it is another example of how the show can fall back on some bad habits when trying to stretch out the story to fit the extended episode count of the season.
