The direction of both Karlsen and Zackrisson is impeccable, finely tuned to both the melodrama and the gothic sensibility of Nesbo’s writing. Go to Full Review

I did find myself laughing out loud at a couple of points during the finale of Detective Hole, but that was more at the show than with it, so rushed and preposterous is its denouement. Go to Full Review

Based on the fifth Harry Hole book, The Devil's Star, it's a bit drawn out, but it gets right what The Snowman got wrong. Go to Full Review

The series is well-edited and photographed, has the pacing required for this type of production, and features music by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis...which lends personality and quality to a very well-chosen soundtrack. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Between Tobias Santelmann and Joel Kinnaman, Detective Hole has more than enough to make this a must-watch for fans of mysteries and dark thrillers, with an ending that promises future seasons with just as much to tune in for. Go to Full Review

Jim W @TVViews 2d I was a full 5 out of 5 until the end. Great acting. Santelmann was fabulous. As was Kinnaman. And a special mention for the kid, Maxime Bochud - awesome job! I thought the script went south with introduction of Willie Barli - both the character and actor - kind of ruined it. I felt really let down, like "you guys can do better than that". Ignoring everything about the theatre twist (which is a heavy lift), I loved the show. The final sentence of the final scene gave me hope for a Season 2. See more Michael Shane B @KVD1969 2d Jo Nesbø's Detective Hole follows Harry Hole (Tobias Santelmann), a brilliant but self-destructive Oslo police detective battling alcoholism and personal trauma. While investigating a brutal serial killer who leaves severed fingers and star-shaped diamonds, Harry is forced to work with his nemesis, corrupt detective Tom Waaler. As bodies pile up, Harry suspects Waaler is "The Prince," a cop leading a criminal underground, forcing him to navigate a treacherous web of police corruption. The investigation becomes deeply personal when Waaler threatens Harry's loved ones, culminating in a dangerous showdown to expose his rival. Harry successfully stops the immediate threats, but the season ends with the chilling revelation that a secret, powerful cult still poses a danger to his future. See more Annie L. @Annie52 4d I have not read the book so maybe this series portrayed it accurately, but I felt the plot was way too fantastical and absurd. Also they evidently felt the need to dwell on gory, bloody details maybe for the sensationalism / shock factor, but I felt that was overdone. The music was overdone as well in that it was overpowering the scenes with the volume and intensity . I would have liked a second season because I did like all the characters (and the reason for the three stars) but if it follows the same tone I would not watch it. By the way it ended I get the impression it will be more of the same. See more R T @RT24598317 May 2 Verry good story, hope there will be a second season. See more Anon N @RedMarauder Apr 26 Super. I enjoyed this series very much. Very good adaptation of the book. Harry's world looks and feels a lot like I picture it in my head when reading the book. I would recommend watching it in original language with subtitles, it works much better. The dubbed version loses a lot of the atmosphere. Tom makes quite a scary cold psycho predator killer. Harry trudges along heavily weighted down by all he carries. I like that he is no American type hero with superpowers. Just a normal guy. That happens to survive. On a wing and a prayer. Also as in the book, the setting and locations all over Oslo are like a main character. Gory scenes dots up the dark universe. Our suspension of disbelief can be stretched at times but it is well rewarded. See more Pete C @Pete1 Apr 21 I enjoyed the acting, though the plot/writing felt a little haphazard. The various storylines did not come together very well at the end, I thought. Seems like there is a lot of potential here if they could tighten things with the writing. Didn't read the books, so not sure how it compares. Seems like it's worth a watch. See more Read all reviews
