TOMATOMETER
Critic Consensus: Surprising without being confusing, "Chapter Five" develops its dark, dramatic themes between the ladies, leaving Archie behind.

Critic reviews for Chapter Five: Heart of Darkness
It's another gray day in Riverdale, but my hopes are high for Bring on the even more openly disturbed Cooper sister, I say!

It didn't always flow well, something the writers need to strengthen is the pace and balance of the episodes, but regardless, it gave us some fascinating new information and humanized Cheryl a bit (something that was overdue).
This episode isn't as engrossing and jam packed as last week. But it's still glorious thanks to Riverdale's best character: Betty.
Things definitely went dark and dramatic on Riverdale.
Keeping track of all the characters and their ties to each other can be a dizzying task. That's the fun of the show though, trying to sort through all the wreckage and mayhem.
For those hoping Riverdale would continue to lean more into its campier sensibilities, Chapter Five is the episode that scratches that itch.
