What to Know

Critics Consensus

A shocking outburst overshadows a sour Oscar night marred by ill-conceived gimmicks and time-saving changes that fail to tighten up another bloated ceremony.

The whole night was a buffet of Hollywood crazy. I thought this Oscars had already set an all-time record for mind-blowingly tasteless decisions until they had a cheerleading squad sing “Spirit in the Sky” for the In Memoriam montage. Go to Full Review

Hate should have no place at the Oscars, but here we are, looking right at it. And as much as we may like to, we can’t forget the 2022 Oscar telecast was a catastrophe outside of its defining moment. Otherwise, the years to come will only follow suit. Go to Full Review

It was an Oscars that tried to buddy up to its viewers, to make them feel like they were part of the show. It instead resulted in something distorted and infinitely uncomfortable. Go to Full Review

Was that real? Did Will Smith just clock Chris Rock? Am I hallucinating? Go to Full Review

Plummeting ratings and dwindling viewer interest in the Oscars over the last few years has had the Academy scrambling...little did anyone expect that an appalling physical confrontation would end up becoming the most talked about moment of the evening. Go to Full Review

If given an option between the Oscars and an awkward high-school reunion next year, I am gonna stick with going back to school. Go to Full Review

Judith M @RT93224188 03/03/2025 I remember the day when we’d all look forward to awards season - and we’d all sit glued to the TV for the entire telecast. NOT ANYMORE. Good luck trying o find the show - and I have a “smart TV” - emphasis on TV -Certainly not smart. Along with the Grammy’s, the Sag awards, and countless football gannets Would somebody out there STOP SCREWING THHE VIEWING PUBLIC OVER? I have every subscription. I cannot watch my shows. Well go back to the movies when you stop playing “Hide and Sekk” with STANDARD AWARDS SHOWS! Enough! See more 04/09/2022 Let's be real, if slapgate didn't happen this show would just another annual dreadful awards show with no substance and a bunch of celebrity in one big circlejerk over a bunch of movies most people don't care for. Take away that Will Smith faux pas and I wouldn't even know the Oscars even happened when it did. As ugly as an incident it was, it made for a fun topic to gossip about and for that, this year's Oscars gets 2 stars from me, otherwise I wouldn't even bother.
