Tense and thrilling, if not terribly distinct, Angel of Darkness takes The Alienist in a darker direction while giving the superb Dakota Fanning more time to shine. Read critic reviews

The show it's amazing. But i was disappointed that in the 2nd season the main protagonist who is actually Kreizler as the alienist, has very little participation. The whole season was about Sara and her capabilities and her romance with John. I think that the second season was not so good as the first one. Kreizler was like a secondary role.

Two amazing seasons this second one had me biting the nail on the most ferocious and frightening, incredible performances.

S02 does make no sense!! The show's name is The Alienist, right? Then, why S02 looks like there is nothing about the alienist? Look, if you guys want some feminism, then do a spin-off of Sara, not like this, name The Alienist, film The Detective, and the worse part is that you guys let Dr. Laszlo said " I may won't be back.", seriously, change the show name.

Just as good as the first season and keeps on making me wanting more and more at the end of every episode.

Season 2 is sooooooo much better than the book. Just like season 1, the second season of the Alienist is a fast-paced historical mystery. The acting is superb! Seriously, the entire ensemble knocks it out of the park. The costumes, especially Sarah's, were mesmerizing.

I really loved season 2 of The Alienist. The series returned with a high quality in entertaining fusion of history and fictional embellishment, looking at the TNT production, it continues to make a very brillante and clever environment and pace. This season is about the murder of baby girls and shows the begigning of the feminist movement on the U.S.A, the actors are perfect when playing the caracters, the cast has a very good interaction, they were expressive and give a high performance. You will like this series if you like mystery movies with investigation, murder and a lot of blood, and expecially if you like a dramatic and uncanny narrative.

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………. Abstract: The second season of this Victorian Gothic crime scene set in late 19th century New York looks less daring and original than the first, but exhibits a perhaps greater harshness and darkness, the acting solvency of its leading trio (led by an extraordinary Dakota Fanning), a notable criminal and the dazzling production and rigorous re-enactment of the same old days. ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… ………………………………. ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………. Review: Contains references (not spoiler) to season 1 in the second paragraph This time the leading trio of the series faces the investigation of the disappearances and murders of babies, some of them the sons and daughters of high-ranking characters. In season 2 we could say that Sara Howard (Dakota Fanning) takes center stage in the series, leading her own detective agency. Collaborating with her is the journalist John Moore (Luke Evans), committed to the daughter of the journalism mogul Hearst and the alienist Laszlo Kreisler (Daniel Brühl), that sort of proto-psychoanalyst at the head of his own institute of mental pathologies. It cannot be denied that the issue of season 1 was of much greater audacity and that the case addressed in the second is more conventional. But I consider that the personality of the person who commits the crimes is approached more carefully (the person in charge performs a remarkable performance) and the general atmosphere of the series is even more somber, sordid and sad, peering into the Gothic horror genre, reminiscent of the Victorian Penny Dreadful series. The period reconstruction and production continue to be admirable. The extraordinary performance of Dakota Fanning stands out, whose Sara, although she has achieved independence as a professional and shows a courage and a seamless commitment, continues to carry and transmit a patent sadness in each of her movements. In addition, the intense chemistry that she achieves in her scenes with Evans is noteworthy. Brühl's character (who gives the series its name, let's not forget it) is somewhat relegated and at times seems almost a filler, without this detracting from his brilliance as an actor. In short, another intense season, less daring and original than the previous one, but of unusual toughness. ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

To go from being such a fantastic show in series one and gripping the viewer from first episode to last focusing on Dr Kreizler throughout with help from his colleagues, it was extremely disappointing that in season 2 a show called "The Alienist" seemed to focus on everybody but said Alienist. I sincerely hope if there is to be a season 3 that the focus of the show moves back to what got people interested and invested in the first place. Rather than lecturing and pontificating how about just entertaining.

My goodness, watching this was painful. I say that with a heavy heart as I was the biggest champion of The Alienist. Were we supposed to be watching a show called "The Detective" instead? I had to actually fast forward as some scenes dragged on and I suffered from a constant case of inward eye-rolling. Sara Howard is supposed to be a supporting actress in this show and I found the show lacking the mystery, the brilliance, the refined passion for answers as it constantly focused on her instead of Dr. Kreizler. The first season was incredible, the investigation went from odds to ends to end up at Japheth and it was a stomach-twisting journey in trying to find out who the killer is. This season lacked that same intensity. I loved Dr. Kreizler's over-bearing desire to solve the case in the first season and without it, this season lacked punch. Good acting, poor screen-play, poor plot. Very poorly done indeed, I took a month to watch it whereas with the first season I skipped work to finish.
