Critic Reviews for The Blacklist Season 2
All Critics (18) | Top Critics (4) | Fresh (15) | Rotten (3)
I don't know if it was the fact that we now have several new characters on the show to give it a renewed energy or the fact that they seem to be beefing up the stories for the supporting cast, but it's a welcome thing.
Elizabeth Keen (Megan Boone), remains fairly bland.
Perhaps the most exciting aspect of this premiere ... is that while Red was as engaging and creepy-charming as ever, the tone didn't waver when he was away from the action.
This was a pretty good start to the season.
Between all of the intrigue and action it could easily get messy and confusing, but the writers are really pulling it off leaving us with so many story threads we want to follow, that we should have several great story arcs for this season.
I loved Liz's darker path this season because I recognized she was becoming more and more like Raymond Reddington.
I was grossed out, to say the least, and I'm sure that is just what the writers of the show were aiming for, right?
Monday's jam-packed hour belonged to two very important (and very different) women.
There's no peace for Red Reddington - only pieces of peace.
Spader continues to nonchalantly demolish the scenery surrounding him with is pursed lips and blasé delivery. Truly, he is a gifted SOB even if looking at him wearing that trademark hat makes me despair.
With such a flamboyant lead in Red and more and more outlandish bad guys, it's felt for a while like The Blacklist wants to be a looser, wilder show than its fairly straight-faced procedural beginnings suggested.
If this fast paced action and story keep it up, then I'm all in for what should be another great season of The Blacklist.

Feb 24, 2020It's great and keep you attention all the time.

Feb 18, 2020In the first arc of the season The Blacklist seemed to have lost its edge compared to S2, though I enjoyed watching James Spader's Reddington even more this season and I thought the "resurrection" of Tom was silly, but the season is saved by the later half with was for the most part exceptional. The season finale one of the best in the show, an iconic final 5 minutes.

Jun 26, 2019I watched and enjoyed.

Jun 18, 2019I really like this show...Spader is such a dynamic actor...but the actor that plays Keen is annoying, bratty, and just plain bland...it may be the writing or it could be just her but she makes it hard to watch and I gave her 2 seasons to grow on me... usually it works but not this time.... great show if you ignore her

May 16, 2018The show is better.Still held together BY James Spader. He is really the MVP.

Jun 06, 2017The show that drives its viewers insane. I began watching The Blacklist a while ago because of the intriguing premise for the show. A supervillain on the FBIs Most Wanted list hands himself in and subsequently provides them with a list of other supervillains, even ones which the FBI dont know about, and he works with them to catch them. This is what attracted many millions of viewers I expect, but of course the programme has to grow and develop and extend to countless episodes as is the American way. However, despite the interesting story-lines concerning the Fulcrum, Reddingtons story, Lizs identity and the workings of Cabal, I feel as though they are preventing the show from moving forward fluently. Season 1 had a stable and a tighter structure to individual episodes and the season as a whole, as the concentration was on catching these supervillians that are a part of Reds Blacklist. Although as season 1 progressed the underlying stories of Tom/ Jacob, Lizs identity and Reds motives became more prevalent but it didnt detract from the show, it complimented it and made season 2 hotly anticipated. [ SPOILERS AHEAD ] Season 2 has suffered some stalling tactics as the very slow reveal of Lizs identity has now spanned 44 episodes so far and we have learned some things about Lizs past but there are plenty of unanswered questions still remaining for season 3 and beyond. This is part of the draw of the show now for the viewers, they have invested in the story and many will continue to be a loyal viewer so they can find out all of the unrevealed mysteries concerning Lizs past and Reds involvement. The season finale wasnt blockbuster stuff but it still had some fascinating moments, none more so than the Connolly moment (WOW!) Not only is the murder really shocking given the fact that Harold was pleading with her not to, she does anyway which not only confirms her as a fugitive but it also provided us patient viewers with the biggest flashback that the programme has delivered so far. The scene before the fire where a young Liz witnesses an argument between her mother and a man (potential partner and Lizs father), and during this argument a gun falls to her feet where she reaches down and pulls the trigger and kills the man. With this revelation, she is in a state of shock and she kind of is in a daze as she calls Red and she ends up meeting him, where we are given what I believe is the clearest hint that Red is her biological father since Sams death and his burns. Red says to Liz while sitting on a bench during the final scene of the finale: I didnt want you to become like me. The question we have to ask is, why would anyone that ISNT her father say such a thing. It doesnt seem logical that someone who is just looking out for her would say something like this, only a father would say this in my opinion. Having said that, this show has sprung so many surprises that it is still within the realms of possibility that he isnt and there is a complex and unexplained mystery for his connection to her. There were some cracking episodes in this seasons Blacklist, none more so than the double-header of Luther Braxton. Here we were presented with a dangerous villain that brings the story surrounding the Fulcrum into focus clearly for the first time. The episode is exhilarating and was presented like a short action film similar to Mission Impossible, Bond or Bourne. The plot thickens when Braxton reveals that he knows some of the history between Red and Liz. He captures Liz and forces upon her neurological experiments to trigger memories in Lizs head to guide them to the Fulcrum and events of the night of the fire. By the end of the episode Liz is rescued and she has learnt that Red was there at the night of the fire and she also finds the Fulcrum in her teddy bear. Next season I will hotly anticipate the show, because we are now presented with new aspects that will make it different to the previous two seasons. Firstly, Ressler is now the Acting Director of the Taskforce; it will be interesting how he and the team attempt to hunt down Liz and Red as well as the possibility that Ressler will lapse back into his pill-popping phase to deal with the situation. I fully expect there to be a confrontation moment between Liz and Ressler and hell have to decide to bring her in or let her go, in a similar way he let her escape in the season finale. There is also the unique and dynamic relationship between Liz and Red now that are both on the FBIs Most Wanted list. How will Liz deal with being a fugitive? How will she deal knowing she is Masha Rostova? And will Reds personality rub off on her? The Cabal now know that Red possesses the Fulcrum and has given information to some investigative journalists; the question is how will they respond to this tactic used by Red? Furthermore, the resources that Red has acquired during his stint working with the FBI, for example Vanessa Cruz, how and will he utilise these Blacklisters in his attempt to take down the Cabal? And of course will the truth come out about Liz and Red, or will it be dragged out for another season or more? I will continue watching The Blacklist because of its premise, intriguing plots, brilliant villains and I am dying to know the complete story of Liz and Reds history. Dont we all want to know that? Isnt that why we continue to watch? https://rwh92.wordpress.com/

Jan 11, 2017Not as good as the first season. Still love it and it had some great moments, but there are a couple of things that bothered me. One is the fact that after all that happened with "Tom", Liz so quickly forgave him and went right back with him. Believe me I know how hard it is to let someone go even when they've done bad, but no one in their right mind would ever be able to trust someone like that again. They should have just written him off and let her move on. Secondly, I hated how they messed with the partnership of Liz and Ressler. It was so fun watching them work together and see the kind of friendship and bond they have. This season they were hardly ever together. Also, I was hoping they would end up together somewhere down the line.
