The series picks up one year after the events in the final episode of "The Good Wife." After a financial scam destroys the reputation of young lawyer Maia Rindell and wipes out her mentor and godmother Diane Lockhart's savings, the two are forced out of Lockhart & Lee and join forces with Lucca Quinn at one of Chicago's pre-eminent law firms. At Reddick, Boseman & Kolstad, Diane finds familiar faces, including Colin Morrello, who is a rising star in the state's attorney's office, and Marissa Gold. Though starting at the bottom, Diane and Maia are determined to rebuild their careers and lives at the new firm.

Critics Consensus

Angry but still fun, The Good Fight confidently elaborates on current political events with its deftly fictionalized plots.

If you are sympathetic to the virulent and non-stop anti-Trump messaging, there is a pretty compelling legal drama underneath. Go to Full Review

Good Fight squeezes enormously complex issues-immigration policy! The shifting composition of the federal judiciary!-into 50 minutes or less without sacrificing either nuance or the spiky edges of its characters. Go to Full Review

Philip R @PhilipRoss Aug 17 The Good Fight Season 2 is sharp, timely, and utterly compelling. It has been a thrill to experience Diane’s evolution in real time, watching her grapple with the cultural and political upheavals of the day alongside the audience. The writing balances thought-provoking storylines with consistently engaging courtroom cases, keeping each episode layered and unpredictable. Marissa’s character provides the perfect counterweight—lighthearted, witty, and refreshingly grounded—offering moments of levity amid heavy themes. The interplay between drama and humor never feels forced, which makes the show both entertaining and insightful. It’s easy to see why the season has earned such high ratings: a smart cast, fearless writing, and a rare ability to reflect the chaos of our times while still being immensely fun to watch. See more Jason G 10/12/2023 Not sure why the producers choose to get political. Shame really, the first season was great. Get to episode 7 in season two and goes down hill. Just shows you how derange people are. Think I will just stick to The Good Wife. See more rosemarie m 10/19/2022 I watched   the first season and found the story to be quite good with multi-layered characters that don't fit into a good/evil schema. The influence of politics on jurisprudence is probably very close to reality. No one has only noble motives, it is also mostly about profit, power, manipulation, using people close to you for selfish purposes and how to pull the strings most skilfully. (Like Google and the law firm playing games with each other while benefiting from each other.) Okay, it's satirical and sometimes frightening realistic. Coming to the second season I feel that the contributions are not only satirical but also increasingly disillusioning and cynical. Individual cases show that (political) attitudes can be corrupted and bought, and that truth and veracity are secondary. The main thing is that the desired result is achieved. Everyone lies and plays theatre. (No microdosing of drugs helps against the spreading insanity.) The grotesque figures of the judges and the overexcited lawyer fighting with her "Alexa" are amusing and a welcome contrast. My "favorite social scientist" Adorno left a collection of aphorisms. One of them reads: "There is no right life in the wrong one". The saying came to mind when I saw it. See more phil e 08/13/2022 The show has really gone downhill this season. Outdated, Trump obsession, poor story lines See more John C 02/05/2020 All I want for xmas is law show. Good wife was good. Bring that back. See more 10/25/2019 I love this show. The quality of the writing is so good. In this season lawyers maybe in danger, Maya has the cloud of poss prison time hanging over her, and there is a pregnancy somewhere too See more Read all reviews
