J E @MadMadamMim Aug 22, 2026 I thought Burning Man was a rave out in the desert. Well, apparently, I was wrong, and now I want to go. The doc was well balanced. It showed the history, controversies (power struggles, influencer cultures, unleshed dicks and so on), issues (heat, rain, dust storms, mud, long-ass entry lines, etc.); as well as what the culture is and tries to be (anti-consumer, free expression, human connection), amazing art, play and emotional connection and community built there. Some of the people seem akin to reality show characters. One woman- turns out is *literally* the founder of a software company selling Burning Man Virtual Reality Simulator that Burning Man Corp is using to extend attendance planet-wide, minus any corporate liability of it being an advertisement---this "documentary" doesn't mention that and passes her off as a wide-eyed, ingenuous. spiritual seeker, always filmed in flattering light, perfect makeup, sculpted brows, breathlessly "sharing" self-conscious neatly packaged platitudes about Community and Personal Growth). I wish there were *any* in-depth critical examination of problematic/controversial aspects of Burning Man, but it's mostly a slick manipulative infomercial--void of spontaneity or true human joy--from frame one. It was also hilarious, though, that all the lefties and "libertarians" were afraid to go unmasked into an open desert. All their talk about living free and without restraints just looked like bulls@$t after that.
