Starting out as an interesting and captivating tale of a lost King reclaiming his throne, the second half of Season 1 introduces a new plot which fails to capture the passion from the first half. A new group of characters is brought in halfway and almost every aspect of that hurts the series. The acting takes a massive tumble, with Tom Sturridge (Dream/Morpheus) and Boyd Hollbrook (The Corinthian) carrying the weight of the show on their backs. It is all for naught as the rest of the cast cannot stand on their own and take the rest of the series down with stilted acting, difficulty relaying dialogue, and a secondary plot that feels muffled and boring. For a first season, it does its job of establishing a bigger world, but it does not particularly keep you yearning to explore that world. Time will tell if a second season will help it escape the cliched feel of other Netflix Originals.

This is a such thought provoking series that is very well produced and acted. Really love it.

While the movie dazzles with CGI effects and high-octane action, it is the excellent performances by the trio that make it a must-watch.

Superb and faithful adaptation to the classic comic book series that shows how truly innovative the medium can be. The cast is superb across the board, with Tom Sturridge brilliant as Morpheus, managing to be both godlike yet human at the same time. Behind the camera, the show runners expertly adapt the series faithful, but in a cinematic way to pays tribute to the artists and not just Neil Gaiman's brilliant writing. Easily one of the best comic book adaptations to date.

Fantastic. Had no idea what the story was going into it. Can't wait for more. Some real blood and gore in a few episodes. Fair warning.

Sandman was a good show. I like the imagery of the show. Some episodes hold very deep conversations in it. Yet I didn't like the storyline. The linear story wasn't satisfying. But those episodes I told were enough for me to enjoy the show. Especially episode 6.

Mikey's TV Review: The Sandman (2022) With every episode of this 10 part / 8 hour series apparently costing $15m, it's a relief to say that Netflix have spent their money well. Based on Neil Gaiman's ‘unfilmable' classic graphic novel run from 1989–1996 for DC Comics, the show is produced by DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. It looks beautiful. Often recalling the haunting artwork of regular cover artist Dave McKean. Led by the enigmatic Tom Sturridge as Dream of The Endless, it stars an incredible international cast including Boyd Holbrook as the Corinthian, Vivienne Acheampong as Lucienne, Patton Oswalt (as the voice of Matthew the Raven), Jenna Coleman, Joely Richardson, David Thewlis, Stephen Fry, Mark Hamill (as the voice of Mervyn Pumpkinhead), Lenny Henry (as the voice of Martin Tenbones) and Gwendoline Christie as Lucifer Morningstar. Although Tom Ellis was considered to reprise his role after the success of ‘Lucifer' on Amazon Prime. Miss an episode at your peril, as the narrative is more elaborate than your average fantasy fare. With numerous stories, worlds and realms intertwining throughout. It's also a much slower watch than ‘The Boys' for example, but it needs to be to allow each of the many complex characters to breathe and develop. Stick with it and you'll find a deeply spiritual and rewarding fantasy that works on multiple levels. Addressing concepts of faith, dreams, reality, God(s) and the fundamentals of what makes us truly human. A must watch. Mikey's TV Rating: 5/5* 🤩👌

Just as good as the comics :)

      • Oct 09, 2023

I'm a fan of the comic book since the early 90s and the series was disappointing. Apart from the aesthetic, costumes etc, there was no respect to the source material, specifically towards the characters. Too much progressive ideology plagues the series that was no originally in the comics. Sad.
