What to Know

Critics Consensus

The Testaments ably continues The Handmaid's Tale's fight through a coming-of-age lens in a slow-burning world builder that features an excellent cast of fresh talent.

While newcomers can certainly find things to enjoy in The Testaments’ strong central performances and painterly cinematography, it’s hard to shake the sense that it’s only prolonging a story that should’ve wrapped up ages ago. Go to Full Review

The show’s setting may feel YA, but the reality it seeks to depict is anything but. Go to Full Review

Dowd, of course, is next level. Compressing and occasionally revealing all that she has been through in “The Handmaid’s Tale” and before, what she manages to make Aunt Lydia is both Dorian Gray and his portrait. Go to Full Review

The Testaments is a worthy successor to Handmaid’s Tale and a great gut-punch of a show in its own right. Go to Full Review

"By focusing on the perspectives of Agnes and her schoolmates, the show employs a much-needed vibe shift, becoming, at times, an incredibly fraught teen melodrama." Go to Full Review

Alison N @Alison890 5h Brilliant, it doesn't let the handmaid's tail down at all. I can't wait for the next episode. See more Bernard D @BernardBuckeye 3d Absolute garbage. This show and Handmaid's Tail would've been realistic if based in the Middle East. Otherwise, just crazy liberal drivel. See more resistancerising 5 @RT05794993 4d This isn’t Margaret Atwood’s The Testaments. It’s Bruce Miller’s version of it, and that distinction matters. When a showrunner openly states that the original version "couldn’t be made to work," what follows isn’t an adaptation, it’s a rewrite. Core elements are altered, characters are redefined, and the narrative is reshaped in ways that disconnect it from the source material. Daisy not being Nichole is just one example of a broader pattern: this series isn’t building on Atwood’s story, it’s replacing it. What remains is a product that trades on Atwood’s name while discarding her intent. At a time when the themes of The Handmaid’s Tale and The Testaments are more relevant than ever, that choice feels less like creative freedom and more like a failure of responsibility. Calling this an adaptation is generous. It’s closer to a hollowing out of something that once had real weight. See more Peter F @Pfit1990 5d Just like the Handsmaid Tales it captures the horror and intrigue of a totalitarian society and being suspicious of everyone, anchored by believable performances and the scariest torture scenes since Game of Thrones. See more Vi V @RT12321546 6d Hook to it love it so much. Exciting and decent, I let my teen daughter watch it too. See more Mark H. @Hermski 6d It’s very good and love how they’re using Elizabeth Moss in the series. It’s a great show so far and looking forward to the rest of the season. See more Read all reviews
