What to Know

Critics Consensus

If this sendup of literary potboilers suffers from being as glacially paced as its own whopper of a title, at least Kristen Bell makes for delightfully deadpan company.

John Doyle Globe and Mail The cast is uniformly good, and Kristen Bell has, as universally acknowledged, excellent comic chops. The series rests on her shoulders and she plays Anna with gusto that's admirable. Feb 1, 2022 Full Review Melanie McFarland Salon.com The best that can be said about "The Woman in the House" is that it is equal in heft and worth to your average women-in-peril cable movie. But if you expect more from Bell and everyone else in the cast, its shortcomings just kill it for us. Jan 31, 2022 Full Review Meagan Navarro Bloody Disgusting This series is far more digestible than its mouthful of a title, and the absurd satire builds to a hilarious punchline. Rated: 3.5/5 Jan 31, 2022 Full Review Joe Lipsett Anatomy of a Scream Podcast Network Kristen Bell sells the series with gusto, but the premise is ultimately a little too slight to sustain this many episodes. The killer/finale is great, though one wishes it weren't treated as a reveal so it could come earlier. A slight recommend. Jul 30, 2024 Full Review Shawn Edwards Fox 4 Kansas City Kristin Bell is perfect... but the character development and plot threads is a joke. It's also completely all unbelievable. Rated: 2/5 Oct 27, 2023 Full Review Stephanie Morgan Common Sense Media While a worthy experiment, this genre-bending show just isn't funny, or suspenseful, enough to keep viewers wanting to return for all eight episodes. Nitsan F I've tried twice and I can never even finish an episode. The cast are great but the story is just odd and implausible and boring. It's not the worst thing I've seen but it's not great. Bell has done lots of other great stuff you can watch instead. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 07/31/24 Full Review Brain C Hilariously bad. I'm in the middle of episode four and feel that the hilarious part is about to go away leaving just plain bad. Love Kristen Bell but there's no way she could save this. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 07/30/24 Full Review Nick L The cast is great and the opening four or five episodes really pull you in. However, after that, it descends into a very badly written and shockingly scripted implausible slasher movie rival. The ending is so unrealistic and badly written, one star is doing it too much of a credit Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/15/24 Full Review Ava M Plot was very weak, dialogues were extremely shallow and cliche. Characters were flat, overall it could be mistaken with “The Room” by Tommy Wiseau. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 06/23/24 Full Review Miranda B Poor writing in a series that couldn’t decide whether it was a comedy parody or a serious murder mystery. Kristen Bell did her best to deliver cheesy lines that ultimately fell flat when the tone of the show became too confused. With a plot that constantly leaves you feeling that there must be more and an ending that just leaves you unfulfilled and scratching your head in confusion, the time committed to watching is nothing more than a waste. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/05/24 Full Review Garvis W silliest writing of all time Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/14/24 Full Review Read all reviews
