What to Know

Critics Consensus

If this sendup of literary potboilers suffers from being as glacially paced as its own whopper of a title, at least Kristen Bell makes for delightfully deadpan company.

John Doyle Globe and Mail 02/01/2022
The cast is uniformly good, and Kristen Bell has, as universally acknowledged, excellent comic chops. The series rests on her shoulders and she plays Anna with gusto that's admirable. Go to Full Review

The best that can be said about "The Woman in the House" is that it is equal in heft and worth to your average women-in-peril cable movie. But if you expect more from Bell and everyone else in the cast, its shortcomings just kill it for us. Go to Full Review

This series is far more digestible than its mouthful of a title, and the absurd satire builds to a hilarious punchline. Go to Full Review

The big reveal sequence of the finale adds nothing to any character’s emotional journey, undercuts so much of the prior drama, and is perhaps the least intriguing route that could have possibly been taken. Go to Full Review

Kristen Bell sells the series with gusto, but the premise is ultimately a little too slight to sustain this many episodes. The killer/finale is great, though one wishes it weren't treated as a reveal so it could come earlier. A slight recommend. Go to Full Review

Kristin Bell is perfect... but the character development and plot threads is a joke. It's also completely all unbelievable. Go to Full Review

Iain N @Iain70 Feb 19 Unbelievable cliched tripe . Had the makings of a good series, spoiled by a ridiculous and unbelievable script. I know it is meant to be a parody but it missed the mark on all counts. I regret wasting some of my life watching this x See more Steve N @WRXYNZ Feb 16 It's a pretty rediculous show at times, but with it's too long title I guess it's to be expected. It's like getting hit by a semi truck driven by a 9 year old. See more Cam B @Cam.Bennet Feb 12 Started off ok, but got really bad See more Kristol T @Kris9181 Jan 18 Was good up until episode 7 which became ridiculously stupid and unrealistic, would expect better writing. They had multiple options but chose the most unrealistic. Good actors for the most part and decent storyline to follow. Episode 7 pissed me off but had to finish to see it through. See more Catherine B @RT43316108 Jan 12 Genuinely shocked at how many people don't realise this is obviously a parody, and a very good and funny one at that. It's pitched at exactly the right level of being played straight, but it's so silly that you could not possibly mistake it for a real thriller. See more Emily T @RT22911457 Jan 1 I almost never post reviews here, unless it's something I find absolutely reprehensible - like that apocalyptic movie with Julia Roberts. But I was astonished to see the poor reviews for this Netflix show which is one of the funniest things I have ever seen on television. It was just priceless. Everyone in it was perfectly cast and the writing was absolutely stellar. We laughed so hard and so constantly that I had to pause the film so we could get our breath and wouldn't miss the next line. I was a fan of The Good Place, but this was even better. Honestly, whenever I thought it couldn't get more funny or outrageous, it did. See more Read all reviews
