This Is Us shines when it is giving us parts of the human experience that aren't commonly pro-trade on television due to their difficult nature.
What the hell is this show doing?
While "Don't Take My Sunshine Away" wasn't a bad episode by any means, it wasn't great either. This Is Us needs a fresh and innovative story injected into the show because right now it's treading water, and many of its stories are becoming stale.
Not that I enjoy watching scary baby stories like this, but I will say, since the graduation episode on, I've never liked Kate and Toby storylines more.
I'm used to writing This Is Us reviews in which I praise one or two storylines while critiquing the rest, but in this case pretty much every one of tonight's storylines worked for me.
This doesn't seem much like "This Is Us." Well, one part of Tuesday's episode didn't seem much like the family drama we've come to know and love.
"Don't Take My Sunshine Away" contrasts expectation and reality, and finds each of the Big Three making compromises and accepting life's imperfections.
