Critic Reviews for Victoria Season 2
All Critics (19) | Top Critics (7) | Fresh (17) | Rotten (2)
I've become a fool for "Victoria," which is currently in the middle of a very engaging second season on PBS's "Masterpiece."
Where the series excels ... are the quieter, more joyful moments.
Over all, then, a slightly underwhelming start to this much anticipated return, though the visuals remain as stunningly rich and impressive as before.
It's laudable that Victoria willingly takes creative liberties to incorporate a brief, same-sex affair.
There's just something about Dame Diana Rigg. With just a nod of her head or a single word she can steal a scene and make a show.
Is it too long? Almost certainly... But still, it's hard not to enjoy how lovely the episode is in terms of its beauty.
Now returning for its second season, this is a colorful attempt at combining the patient, tome-heavy spirit of Masterpiece Theater with the more melodramatic, visually stylish historical dramas now in vogue.
As a slice of Sunday-night escapism it's pretty unbeatable.
In truth, Victoria often wanders a bit far afield from hard fact-but it nevertheless manages to use this historical license for something worthwhile in the end.
Already more interesting and wittier than the first season, this new series of Victoria is shaping up to be even better than the first.
All that being said, the costumes continue to be gorgeous, the music striking and the acting is pretty decent too. It remains an enjoyable period drama - but just don't go in expecting anything more than that.
Season 2 of Victoria begins on Masterpiece tonight, with the captivating Jenna Coleman returning as the young, increasingly determined and powerful monarch.

Mar 31, 2019The early life of Queen Victoria, from her ascension to the throne at the tender age of 18 to her courtship and marriage to Prince Albert.Jenna Coleman is always amazing. Tom Hughes as Prince Albert is excellent as well . What's more entertaining than being transported back into history . A Masterpiece production well at home in PBS .

Mar 02, 2019Well done and entertaining
-
Mar 19, 2018Just like The Crown covers Queen Elizabeth II's life throughout her reign, this series covers Queen Victoria's. It almost looks like they are twin series full of drama, romance, politics and good historical accuracy. the second season covers the relationship with Albert, the birth of her first children and the politics of Prime Minister Robert Peel.
-
Feb 26, 2018Outstanding, and includes many surprisingly interesting incidents that turn out to be factual! Makes you wonder just how Great Britain would have evolved if Prince Albert had lived longer.
-
Feb 11, 2018Every episode is intriguiging
