Zach Stone just finished high school, but unlike a lot of his classmates who are going to college, Zach's plan to fortify his future is a bit more complicated. He dreams of stardom, so he hires a film crew to document his daily experiences and hopes (prays?) that it leads to him becoming an overnight sensation -- even though he has no marketable talent. But that fact doesn't stop him from attempts to become a TV chef, or a ring-tone recording artist, or even purposefully going missing. Zach Stone may never be famous, but watching the chaos, awkwardness and embarrassment accompany his efforts to receive attention is entertaining enough. This single-camera scripted comedy series stars Bo Burnham in the title role. Fresh out of high school himself, Burnham became the youngest person to record and headline a "Comedy Central Presents" special.

It's clear that the writers (and Zach) are so knowledgeable of this particular world that the end result is smarter than you'd expect the average reality show send-up to be. Go to Full Review

For Zach to be sympathetic he must be striving for an emotional breakthrough, but he has no apparent access to authentic feelings. Go to Full Review

Zach Stone Is Gonna Be Famous is absolutely hilarious, mixing cringe comedy with some great physical gags and sprinkling on top a layer of Millennial satire. Go to Full Review

Though Zach himself is an unremarkable young man, watching him try to juice up his average, everyday life, and friends and family enough to make him filmable is pretty hilarious. Go to Full Review

Zach Stone Is Gonna Be Famous flexes MTV's growing strength in scripted fare and is a clever riff on the fanaticism and cynicism inspired by the network's own reality slate. Go to Full Review

Stephen C @bob25009 Feb 8 12 funny MTV episodes. See more Mason M @RT73597940 09/08/2024 A fun little show that captures Bo Burnham's early sense of humor. It's nothing spectacular, but it's charming and funny and ultimately enjoyable. See more Yash B @yashbansal 01/13/2023 A friend of mine brought "Zach Stone Is Gonna Be Famous" to my attention and I am so thankful to him. I have always liked Bo Burnham and think he is one of the most creative minds working today. This show is a quick watch because of its cancellation, but it is truly a hidden gem. It is wacky and hilarious but it also is very sweet and has a lot to say. I think the show works as a one-season series, but I can see how more seasons may have benefitted it. Overall, if you're looking for a quick and hilarious binge, this is a great show that is now among my favorites. See more 01/21/2022 I like Bo Burnham's work but I found this show too frustrating to enjoy, All the characters constantly enabled him when he struck me as more sick than goofy. His boss, his best friends, and even his family were so clueless. His father and brother were the only ones showing any alarm, but the brother was painted as acting on typical sibling conflict and the father spouted off a bit but didn't act on his concern. I had hope when dad insisted the family walk away when the real tv crew showed up, but that was a weak gesture that went no further. The mom had her moments but caved in at the drop of a hat, every time. We were reminded several times that Zach's close friends had been friends since early childhood, and I guess that was meant to explain their loyalty. But wouldn't really loyal friends have had a serious discussion with his parents about getting mental health services involved? I realize I'm taking this maybe too seriously but I found it more disturbing than funny given all the glimpses of darkness we saw in Zach's face. Bo Burnham could probably have played most of Evan Peters' characters on AHS. I realize that this was a comedy, but my point is that it would have been better billed as a drama. The humour--which is laugh out loud funny--seems silly but is so sharp, and each episode has a deep moral lesson. Bo Burnham is a superb actor, and Caitlin Gerard is bloody stunning; a great choice of leads. I wanted to say that first in case people dont read the whole review. _ So Bo Burnham is my favourite celebrity which sounds just stupid if I say it that way. I basically love and rewatch his specials, movie, youtube videos and interviews. I agree with what he says and I totally love his sense of humour (Make Happy is probably the funniest show I've ever seen. But I also love Words Words Words and What. Inside is just different). But going back to the show, this is the only thing of him that I hadn't watch. I only saw some clips in YouTube and I loved them. So first of all, I love the humour of the show. Its really funny and it has very original jokes. Some of them are kind of visual gags, some others consist or how he says things or others are just very funny normal jokes. It is rare for shows to be very funny from the beggining. The characters are also great. They have their roles and they have chemestry. And the relationship between Zach and Amy proves this. Also, the way that the show finds to not be repetitive is brilliant. The idea for each episode is great. And the intros are some of the best things I ve seen in any show. What other sitcom makes you laugh with just the intro? The fact that they change the intro a create a little song for each episode is great. A 20 seconds intro can have around 4 or 5 great jokes. I also have to talk about how it makes so many references about it being a documentary. The people filming are characters with lines and the show makes jokes about the proccess of filming everything. Like a camaraman going in Zach's parents car because there was no more space in the other car. Lastly, one great thing about the show are the serious moments. One of the best moments of the show is seeing zach being alone in a party having a horrible time. It is realistic and very sad as a lot of people have gone through that. Most shows probably would have done this storyline in a different way. Zach is afraid that college could be like highschool. He has serious moments talking with his parents that arent bad people, they think the best thing for Zach would be to go to college. And maybe it would be the best thing in the long-term. _ So basically the show is very funny and has a lot of different types of jokes. It is self-aware and it handles the mockumentary format perfeclty. The characters are good an realistic. But it also makes you feel uncomfortable, sometimes to be funny and others to be serious. And of course, the intros are on a hole new level of quality. Pd: I did just spend about 20 minutes righting a kind of essay about why this short cancelled show was great. Zack Stone should be famous. _ _ Bring Zach back See more Read all reviews
