Andrea Joyce
Growing up in Detroit, Michigan, Andrea Joyce developed an appreciation for athletics early on. During the winters, her father would erect a small skating rink in their backyard for Joyce and her siblings to skate in. Little did her family know that years later, Joyce would be covering the sport of figure skating on an international scale. After graduating from the University of Michigan with a degree in speech and communications, Joyce began her broadcasting career in a series of local markets including KTVH-TV in Wichita, Kansas and KMGH-TV in Denver, Colorado. It was at WFAA-TV in Dallas, Texas where Joyce became one of the first women in the region to cover sports. She took the knowledge and experience she gained at that position and used it to take an even larger stage when she joined ESPN in 1988, making her broadcast debut at the Olympic Games in Seoul, Korea. She would also cover the NFL Draft, and the French Open Tennis Championships at ESPN. The following year, she moved over to CBS Sports where she became a correspondent, making her on-air debut at the U.S. Open Tennis Championships. Joyce would remain with the network division for eleven years, covering several sports events including the Olympics, Major League Baseball, and Final Four basketball. After moving to NBC Sports in 2000, Joyce focused in on covering figure skating, gymnastics, speed skating, and swimming and diving. Joyce also sank her efforts into helping various nonprofits including the Women's Sports Foundation and Figure Skating in Harlem.
