Born on December 13, 1954 in Apopka, Fla., John Anderson is an American country music singer/songwriter. Before turning to country music, Anderson played in a rock band until the age of 15. After moving to Nashville in 1971, Anderson worked odd jobs while playing in some clubs. In 1977, Anderson signed his first recording contract with Warner Bros. Records and had his first Billboard Country chart hit with the song "I've Got a Feelin' (Somebody's Been Stealin')." The song "I'm Just an Old Chunk of Coal (But I'm Gonna Be a Diamond Someday)" from Anderson's 1981 album netted him a Grammy Award nomination for Best Male Country Vocal Performance. After leaving Warner Bros. in 1986, Anderson worked with other record labels including, MCA Records, Capitol Records and BNA Records. In 1993, Anderson was awarded the Academy of Country Music Career Achievement award. John Anderson currently lives in Smithville, Tenn., with his wife and two daughters.
