Novelist-turned-screenwriter Nicolás Giacobone amassed an impressive resume within a very brief period of time, co-writing both the Oscar-nominated "Biutifiul" (2010) and the complex fantasy-drama "Birdman" (2014). The Argentinean-born Giacobone initially pursued in a career in literature, which he studied in college before penning his first novel, Algun Cristo (Some Christ, 2001). Gradually, he developed an interest in writing for film and penned his first script in 2003 for a short film called "Oceano" ("Ocean") for director Pascual Sisto. In 2009, his cousin, writer-director Armando Bo, teamed with him to co-write the Oscar-nominated drama "Biutiful" (2010) for director Alejandro Iñárritu. Two years later, he co-wrote Bo's debut as feature director, the melancholy drama "El Ultimo Elvis" ("The Last Elvis," 2012), which earned a Grand Jury Prize nomination in the World Cinema category at the Sundance Film Festival. When Iñárritu conceived the story for "Birdman" - about a former action movie star seeking redemption through a gritty play - he again tapped Giacobone and Bo, who teamed with American playwright Alexander Dinelaris to write the script. Collaborating via Skype from their respective homes in Bueno Aires and New York, Giacobone, Bo and Dinelaris' completed work was a major critical hit in late 2014, winning the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay and a Golden Globe for Best Screenplay. The following year, all four "Birdman" creators were hired by the Starz Network to create a new drama series, "The One Percent" (2015- ), with actors Ed Helms, Hilary Swank and Ed Harris in the leads.
