This is kind of a wannabe version of All About Eve, if you think about it.

If you ever wanted to see Crosby in a dramatic role instead of a comedy, this is the movie to see. He gives a brilliant performance, as does the rest of the cast. The story is realistic and surprising to the end. I highly recommend this movie.

Bing Crosby, Grace Kelly, & William Holden all give in this film their best performances. Crosby plays a neurotic drunk, and is just unbelievable. Or should I say is quite believable. Grace Kelly is his frumpy wife. Not her usual type-cast character and won her Oscar for this role Even though it's pretty much a forgotten film, a must-see for classic movie fans.

A good film about Bing Crosby being a washed up drunkard actor, Grace Kelly as his wife who tries to keep him from falling apart, and William Holden as a director willing to take a chance on Bing for a new play. This is easily Bing's best performance of his career,it's the only film I've ever seen of his that he had to actually act. Grace is also great and won her only oscar for this performance. William Holden could do a toothpaste commercial and be a bad ass.
