Heist movies have not lost any of their popularity in the 21st century, and this bona fide, but paradoxically (and unfairly) little known movie-that-should-be-a-classic of the late sixties may well be the mother of a whole generation of films featuring heists turning out to be disasters. This movie is surprisingly fresh and does not look outdated in the least. Fresh it is indeed: the complicity/rivalry between the two male stars is contagious (Delon/Bronson: what a dream, albeit unlikely pair to behold - this is one of these rare matches from heaven that you must see to believe!). And what a twisted plot! There's nothing predictable in that story where losers rule. A crime story in that rich 60s-70s vein that only French directors and actors knew to extract and that gave us so many classics of the genre.

Years after serving together in the French Foreign Legion, American soldier of fortune Franz Propp (Charles Bronson) and French doctor Dino Barron (Alain Delon) are unexpectedly reunited under the most extraordinary circumstances. Hoping to help a friend who has embezzled some bonds, Barron tries to break into a safe in the dead of night. Sneaking into an underground vault he is surprised to discover that his old pal Propp is also on the premises, likewise intending to crack the safe, albeit for his own benefit. After a few awkward moments, a friendship develops between the two as they try to get out from the locked vault. also stars Bernard Fresson, Brigitte Fossey, Austerlitz, Marianna Falk, Ellen Bahl, Jean-Claude Ballard, Michel Barcet, Antoine Baud, Stéphane Bouy, Béatrice Constantini, Guy Delorme, André Dumas and Steve Eckhardt. directed by Jean Herman.

Extremely watchable, "Honor Among Thieves" features a perfect protagonistic duo in Alain Delon and Charles Bronson, a well-written script, engaging dialogue, tight direction and some truly classic scenes.

A clever script from the late SEBASTIAN JAPRISOT and smart performances from the two male leads results in an entertaining thriller--Honour among thieves!!

A bit like a low-budget French version of Ocean's Eleven, with plenty of weirdness thrown in. The dialogue is always unnatural, somewhat akin to that of a dodgy Spaghetti Western, the fight scenes are worse than many in Emmerdale and the unfathomable plot lulls in a big way around the middle. Despite some interesting scenes of 1960s Paris and plenty of classic French cars, it felt rather a hard slog to see this through to the end, which I just about managed to do, despite myself. 5.75/10

Two men spend a long weekend breaking into a vault, one suckered to return bonds to it by a lady, the other to loot it. Bronson always worthwhile, this one I suspect may be better the second time around as I watched a print with poor audio.

Great Crime Grotueske starring the Incredible Duo Alain Delon & Charles Bronson. Great Directed and Shot, also a Great Soundtrack and it shows how the Legionarys and Soldiers at all can't find back in Regular Life after the breathtaking Adventures they lived and turn into Criminals
