Cory T @D4rk_Ang3l.71 Jan 22 really captures the hell that are conversion camps/ therapy including the feeling of guilt for being queer. the assault scenes are horrible but it's to tell a story of struggle and pain that no soul should ever have to go through.. yet we STILL live in a society where it's so normalized. the movie was unbearably slow paced... I don't recommend watching it if you're already in a slump it will make you feel worse! some of the characters are horrible people and I wish that this wasn't based on a real story. But midway there is probably where the truth lies. The people doing the converting have many hundreds of years of bible thumping homophobics creating the state of some Christian churches against homosexuality and it skews their worldview. See more Gavin H @RT95700184 Jul 5 This is such an important message in the US and shows how damaging parenting can be if it's about them and their reputation rather than about the child. That is tricky to be sure. No one is trained to be a parent AND and that is a big AND having a moment of reflection, introspection is so vitally important to protecting our kids health. It also shows the harm in religion. I use that in the pejorative as if the bible is read as the intended reading, then homosexuality is no different than having a meal with mixed meat. There is tons of context in reading a religious book. Why single out one misread section and apply that to the whole of humanity. A very good coming to terms movie with lots of honest moments. What we have here is a movie that feels like an ABC TV movie from the late 1980s. None of the characters are particularly well written, and they actually border on stereotype. As a result, not even actors of this caliber are able to breathe much life into them. Crowe suffers the most, and it's hard to determine whether this seemingly lackluster performance is a result of the actor or the screenwriter, or perhaps a combination of both. This reminded me of another 2018 film, BEAUTIFUL BOY, which was also a movie with vital subject matter that seemed to collapse under the weight of its good intentions.
