Movie Info

This conventional drama about two people on a desert island is enhanced by good acting on the part of Oliver Reed as middle-aged Gerald Kingsland, the man who wants to go native, and Amanda Donohoe as Lucy Irvine, the woman who joins him. Lucy has a dull job in wintry London so when she sees an ad from Gerald asking for a woman to come with him to an island near Papua New Guinea for one year, she answers yes, he agrees, and off they go. Clothes are optional. Their personalities are not always in agreement but what is more problematical than their emotional and mental state is their physical state. Neither one remembered to bring any medical supplies and soon everything takes a turn for the worse.

Audience Reviews for Castaway

its good good parts and bad. the nudity was done realistically which means theres a lot of it. touches on some interesting dynamics between men and women in an extreme setting.

Despite all its short-comings, Roeg never lets things get dull--his camera sees to that. Strange and mesmerizing visuals hold the attention, even when the plot does not.

Reed at his best.
