As a married Asian woman, this movie deeply touched me. I have experienced a situation similar to Chu’s, especially in how we face traditional Asian family expectations and our mothers-in-law. Yes, my mother-in-law didn’t like me and looked down on me at first. But in the end, I accepted the challenge and won my husband’s heart. He has been with me all along, and through this journey, we’ve come to understand each other better and live the life we truly want. I love him for who he is—not for his wealth or his seemingly perfect family. Just him, being himself. Now, we are blessed with a happy married life.

Some films earn a truly bitter ending, and this one absolutely felt like it deserved one. At least the family should have been left with a bitter climax!

Reading the reviews on here is a great reminder of why I should never listen to other peoples opinion. I wonder how many good movies I’ve missed cause I looked at what others thought. I’ve watched this movie twice and loved it.

I was disappointed given all the hype. Constance Wu is a shining presence and the production is lavish. The film is very Hollywoodish. It's predictable, and uses the the same old tired tropes that being rich is also being superficial and Trumpish. The Awkwafina character deserved Razzies. How she wasn't edited out is mystifying.
