What to know

critics consensus

Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising may not be strictly necessary, but it still wrings a surprising amount of humor from a recycled premise with a distaff twist. Read critic reviews

A rip off of the first one and full of crude unfunny humor. Rogen and Byrne are too talented to waste their time and Efron looks bored to tears. Chloe Grace Moritz can't save this dreck. Don't waste your time! 06-12-2017

It's not that it isn't funny or entertaining but I think what made the original truly enjoyable was the fresh premise. Neighbours 2 feels too much like a reiteration despite Efron's character subplot and heavy feminist overtones. It's a solid comedy but exists more or less as a really long DVD extra of the original. I think having a more profound character story revolving around Moretz instead would've been a wiser choice.

A terrible sequel to a garbage film, Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising delivers more raunch and out-and-out stupidity. Matt and Kelly Radner faceoff with another group of unruly neighbors, this time a sorority, and get into a war of juvenile pranks. With the sorority angle the film tries to take on issues of sexism and female empowerment, but the sorority girls are such selfish assholes that the politics get lost. And despite the powerhouse cast, Seth Rogen, Rose Byrne, Zac Efron, and Chloe Grace Moretz, there aren't any good performances. Also, the comedy is incredibly vulgar; all sex joke and gross-out humor. Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising is an insipid sequel that tries to do the same thing over again, but can't even get that right.

At least as good as the first.
