Leaden, formulaic.

With a panache worthy of Oscar Wilde, Johnson delivers lines such as: "This is stupid!"
July 16, 2018
Along with Johnson's rippling physique and heroic fingertips, the film's chief asset is the creatively conceived title object-the very tall building.

It would be fair to say that Skyscraper does what it sets out to do but the unambitious agenda isn't something I'm especially interested in watching.

The pleasures here come from watching an extraordinary physical specimen go through a lo-tech workout routine thousands of feet above the ground as he tries to rescue his family from a burning superskyscraper.

As a streaming option on a slow night or a long flight, the movie has its uses. But you've seen almost all of this before, with more wit and a better villain.

July 12, 2018
You know this movie is stupid because, well, it stars Dwayne Johnson and it's called "Skyscraper." What you may not know is how stupid.

Nobody in this film has a personality; they're just evil, stoic, mildly badass (particularly Neve Campbell, as Will's resourceful wife) or The Rock.

Skyscraper is the kind of movie you can watch on a flight, without bothering to wear headphones. In fact, it might play better that way.
July 12, 2018
Just intense enough to provide a much-needed diversion, just lightweight enough to make you forget about it soon after it's over.

Computer systems may be able to perform remote-control miracles but they're all hackable and in the end, nothing can compare to the Rock's durable combination of muscle and Boy Scout know-how.
July 12, 2018
"Skyscraper" is dumb summer fun.
