Roberto Benigni is an undeniably gifted physical comic, but the misguided Son of Pink Panther betrays his energetic efforts with a painfully unfunny script. Read critic reviews

When Princess Yasmin (Debrah Farentino) of the kingdom of Lugash is kidnapped by Hans Zarba (Robert Davi), Police Commissioner Charles Dreyfus (Herbert Lom) comes to Nice, France, to supervise the rescue effort. Clumsy policeman Jacques Gambrelli (Roberto Benigni) is assigned to assist him -- and Dreyfus is appalled to learn Jacques is the illegitimate son of his old nemesis, the late Inspector Clouseau. While Jacques pursues the princess, Dreyfus romances Jacques' mother (Claudia Cardinale).

Jun 24, 2021Like the last two movies this is both unnecessary and entirely unfunny. Benigni is mostly trying something different here but none of it works (His character might just be too much of a nice guy in a series that often thrived on Sellers' pompous Clouseau). Hard to tell how much of that is his fault or the direction or the terrible script or just all of the above.Alec B Super Reviewer

Nov 05, 2008I am surprised this one was made so recently. I liked the opening credits with the animated pink panther brought to life to direct an a cappella performance of his theme song. Unfortunately from there it is just an excuse to milk the franchise for a few more dollars, while the laughs have become very strained. It's also an excuse to bring back the older generation of Lom, Cardinale, and Kwouk. Benigni is explained ridiculously as the son of Jacques Clouseau. So he has a funny Italian accent instead of a funny French accent. He bumbles and stumbles and spouts off Shakespeare and other poets, you know the usual Benigni type humor. Davi is not too bad as a bad guy. And Farentino is quite pretty though often drugged into a stupor as the damsel in distress. The plot is not important in the least and that just makes it all the more sad.Byron B Super Reviewer
