While racing toward the town of Red Rock in post-Civil War Wyoming, bounty hunter John "The Hangman" Ruth (Kurt Russell) and his fugitive prisoner (Jennifer Jason Leigh) encounter another bounty hunter (Samuel L. Jackson) and a man who claims to be a sheriff. Hoping to find shelter from a blizzard, the group travels to a stagecoach stopover located on a mountain pass. Greeted there by four strangers, the eight travelers soon learn that they may not make it to their destination after all.

While it's not his best film (it's far too long and indulgent at times), Tarantino absorbs the audience into a scene, compelling you to look at each and every inch of it--indicative of many vintage films (his usual film playground).

When looking at Tarantino's filmography, The Hateful Eight doesn't hold a candle to works like 'Pulp Fiction' or 'Kill Bill,' but it's an entertaining film nonetheless — if you don't mind the runtime.

The Hateful Eight is a gripping, contained drama that thrives on tension, dialogue, and atmosphere. Much like The Grey, it places its characters in an isolated, hostile environment where paranoia and survival instincts slowly take over. Instead of relying on constant action, the film builds suspense through conversation, shifting alliances, and the growing sense that no one can be fully trusted. The performances are strong across the board, with each character feeling distinct and unpredictable. The snowy setting becomes almost like another character, reinforcing the claustrophobic mood and escalating unease. The slow-burn structure may not be for everyone, but it pays off in intensity and impact. While it occasionally feels drawn out, the direction and atmosphere keep it engaging throughout. It’s a smart, tightly controlled thriller with a bleak edge. I rate it an 8/10.

One of my favourite films ever made, acting is outstanding, the plot of the film has so much depth and detail despite the film mostly being set in one big room they won’t make films like this anymore because of how woke the worlds gotten, perfect winter film great actors, great movie, great suspense and goosebump moments, captivating scenes throughout. I can definitely say Quentin Tarantino did not miss with this film, worth a watch 100%.
