I don't often say this, but I believe sometime it's important to watch the bad movies so that you can appreciate the good films even more. I had been holding out on watching The Room for a long time, but upon the release of The Disaster Artist, I felt it was the right time to divulge into the madness. And make no mistake, the film does not disappoint. This is easily one of the worst films ever made, if not the worst. But unlike many horrible films I have seen, there's a certain amount of undeniable enjoyment here. I know Tommy Wiseau has come out and said the film was purposefully comedic and should be considered a "dark comedy", but there's no way most of this film was this intentionally bad. Either way, there are so many memorably awful and funny things to come out of this. First off, unless it was just my copy of the DVD from the library, but it sure seemed like the words spoken and the timing of the characters mouth's moving were not linked up for most of the film. But that's the only major technical issue I noticed with the movie. Speaking of which, how in god's name did this film cost 6 million dollars to make? There's no action, shouldn't be any special effects, nor green screen scenes (though apparently Wiseau did actually do some of that). Why would this film cost that much? An even better question may be how the heck he came up with 6 million on his own to produce this? At any rate, The Room is one of the most fun mistakes Hollywood has ever produced. I'm already looking at YouTube constantly for these short clips from the film that make absolutely no sense to fulfill my entertainment for that particular moment. It's no wonder why James Franco was able to come up with an entire film worth of ideas and moments to make The Disaster Artist a success.
0.5/10
(.5 for the mere fact that this film is memorably atrocious)
